Get the look: gemma chan's supernatural shine Get the Look Gemma Chan's Supernatural Shine Sci-fi series Humans is set to be one of summer's biggest TV events, with more than 4 million viewers tuning in to the first episode - but our eyes were firmly on Gemma Chan's perfect shiny hair. Gemma, who plays domestic robot (or 'synth') Anita in the series, has been a regular client at Charles Worthington for more than three years and it's master stylist, Katie Allan, who is responsible for her glossy hair. Katie says: "Gemma's colour is a combination of cool mocha shades which are only slightly lighter than her natural base. I use a free hand balayage technique to give a subtle lift through the roots with a few ombré sunkissed ends. I don't over colour Gemma's hair so her natural glossy locks aren’t compromised, but the flashes of colour help enhance Gemma’s skin tone and make her eyes pop. I also give Gemma a nourishing hot towel treatment at every other appointment to keep her hair in top condition."

• Encourage clients to invest in the best tools, like the new ghd platinum styler, which uses patented tri-zone technology for kinder styling; that’s safer-for-hair heat with better results. • A blast of cold water for about three to five seconds seals the hair cuticles which helps add shine - but warn clients first! • Use shine boosting products and sprays after styling – but don't overload it, otherwise hair can end up looking greasy. • Introduce a colour gloss or shine-on service. At Charles Worthington, a shine-on colour contains no hydrogen peroxide and no ammonia which is gentle on the hair and leaves it looking luminous and full of radiance. A colour gloss is a perfect introduction for clients to colour their hair, not only to cover those first white hairs but you can use it to add shine and intensity to freshen up coloured hair. galleryWidgetDec14   [Image: Instagram.com/Gemma_Chan]
