Apprentices tell us what their favourite hair trends are and why they love them

We asked apprentices at some of the top salons across the UK what their favourite hair trends are. The results are a mix of classic, fashion and street style looks. Here's what the next generation of hairdressers predict are the must-have hair looks of 2019... Khloe Kardashian-inspired Bobs Jessie Murphy and Chloe Gibbs from Anne Veck in Bicester and Oxford and Georgia Green at KJM Salons in Fleet love the modern bob. "My favourite celebrity hair trend would be Khloe Kardashian's bob! Personally I think a bob is a perfect hair trend for SS19 and if there is anyone that can inspire people to change their hairstyle it would be a Kardashian! Khloe has also inspired her own family to join the bob/lob including her niece [Penelope Disick] who has recently had long locks cut off into a stylish bob," explains Jessie. Chloe similarly loves a bob, but favours creative colours to partner with the eternally stylish cut, "my favourite hair trends are balayage fading into a bright colour like a pink or blue." Over at KJM Salons in Fleet, Georgie agrees: “I like the celebrity trends, especially the bobs, I feel clients are really influenced by Holly Willoughby, Charlize Theron, Irina Shayk and the bobs on the red carpet at the Oscars, it’s fun to interpret these trends and make them suitable for our customers.” https://www.instagram.com/p/BuB5pUnh1qQ/ Ashy brown Symran Bhogal from Bad Apple Hair is a fan of smokey browns and they're proving a hit at Bad Apple. "A lot of my naturally dark-haired clients want to try out ash tones just like the celebrities and influencers they see. But clients often expect to be able to similarly transform their own hair colour, in just one appointment! I always advise them to take their time in taking their hair this light and ashy, and I’m pleased to say they listen! I encourage them to invest in the condition of their hair and then approach the colour process with patience, and it pays off – they listen to my advice and achieve their desired shade slowly, but effectively, without any damage to their locks. In fact, my work in transforming Asian hair so seamlessly into ashy shades has earned me a reputation and I’m now known in the salon as the ‘Asian Ash’ specialist!" [image by Symran below] Grips n' clips  Freya Esson, salon assistant at Rainbow Room International, thinks that hair grips and clips are a cool way to express individuality. "My favourite trend at the moment is the use of hair grips and clips. In hair and fashion there's been a real 1990s revival recently and I believe this trend ties in with that movement. They can really pull an outfit together. They can be used on a variety of clients and I've noticed they've been used a lot in hair and fashion publications and street style. I think they are a cool way to express your individuality." https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqeb708FI0T/   Big, Bouncy 1980s Hair Caitlin Pollard, Nicholas Greeves and Beau Cordell from Janet Maitland Hair Excellence in Durham, finds larger than life 1980s hair is proving a hit at their salon. “We are always so busy in the salon on a Saturday creating gorgeous, glamorous looks for the big night out!" explains Caitlin. "Whether it’s a bouncy blow dry, soft waves or even a sleek up do, the voluminous, 1980’s styles are here to stay!" Speaking on the enduring trend of 1980s hair Nicholas adds: "This is such a glamorous look that can work whatever the occasion. You can add hair accessories such as pearl hair clips or head ties. I love this look on a gorgeous biscuit blonde which has been seen on several celebrities in the recent months, such as Jade Thirlwall and Montana Brown at The Brits 2019." Beau says: “I love creating glamorous looks and experimenting with different techniques to achieve it.” [image from Megan Spence, junior stylist] Short Choppy Bobs as seen at Matty Bovan AW19 Hannah Munro, Level 2 Apprentice, Ishoka Hair & Beauty, Aberdeen, is all about the short and sharp bobs as seen at Matty Bovan. "My favourite hair trend for AW19 came from the Matty Bovan show at London Fashion Week. He is famous for his bold, unique patterns which make a huge statement and are often very powerful. The team behind the scenes created short, choppy bobs and fringes to really overpower the clothes. I love how each cut was unique and this was kept in trend with the overall vibe of the show." https://www.instagram.com/p/BucAsrvBOO3/   Smokey pastels Phoebe Thornton, apprentice from Edward and Co, Brighouse, loves the smoky pastel shades that are all over social media at the moment. "Popular creative colours for 2019 are smokey pinks, lilac but the colours that demonstrate healthy glossy hair. I like the look styled almost wet, which gives texture and makes a simple look stand out, also adding a side parting changes it from a sophisticated look from a rock vibe." https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp1T5XxhIl-/
