The 1940s is the latest era to be referenced at new york fashion week A lot of retro eras have been reference at recent fashion weeks. From the 1950s to the 1990s we have had a variable hairstyling tour of the ages and it's not stopping. One of the most stand out hair looks at New York Fashion Week AW20 was seen at Anna Sui. The look, crafted by Garren, session stylist and founder of the brand R+Co took the traditional 1940s pin up hairstyle on a tour through gothic vamp, referencing the films Daughters of Darkness and Blood and Black Lace (which was the inspiration behind the Anna Sui looks) and brought it bang into 2020. The rumpling the texture of the rolls teamed with height and volume are signatures of Garren's styling. 1940s hair anna sui nyfw 20 Below he shares the steps to create the look...

1940 pin-up style hair step by step

- Separate hair into two sections, front and back, on a centre crown parting. - Apply product depending on hair's texture. For example: For fine hair, add SKYLINE Dry Shampoo Powder to build volume. For silky hair, mist on TROPHY Shine + Texture Spray and SAIL Soft Wave Spray to increase texture. For coarse hair, use TWO-WAY MIRROR Smoothing Oil to increase shine and smoothness. - Backcomb the front section with a Mason Pearson brush. Roll hair on each side toward the centre-parting, keeping the rolls loose, yet large. Pin into place. Using your fingers, gently finesse the shape of each roll to make it bigger and fit the individual's feature. Note: Each shape is unique to the wearer. 1940s hair anna sui nyfw 20 - Lightly tease the bottom section to bring out natural bend and texture. - Pull loose a few pieces from the rolls around the face to play up modern texture. - Finish the look with an all-over mist of OUTER SPACE Flexible Hairspray for hold and support.
