#trending: the return of the perm

It’s no secret that the iconic 80s perm is making another come back. With Hollywood A Listers like Blake Lively stepping out sporting the style, 2016 is the year for a curl craze revolution.

We caught up with Morgan Richards of TONI&GUY, McMahons Point, Australia as she revealed the look from her latest shoot and explains how to make this potentially troublesome trend work for your clients.

How did you come up with the concept for the shoot?

'Taking inspiration from the movement of a strong independent woman, who are taking control of their lives. Not letting anyone stand in her path to personal success and being able to push through modern day difficulties. There’s nothing stronger and more beautiful than a  women's drive to become a successful role model of independence.'

With the perm making a come back what would be your advice for translating into a wearable trend for clients?

'The best way to make this wearable is not to over do it, less is more when it comes to perms these days so don't think of this as a revival of the poodle perm. The updated perm is more about waves be them glamorous or beachy. And with there so many varied ways of perming theres days, there's so much more options for the client.'

What products would you recommend to support the look?

'I'm a big fan of label.m's finishing products as its what I use every day in the salon. I would recommend these products to clients with naturally curly or permed hair:

Label.m Curl cream - This luxurious cream defines curls to controlling frizz.

Label.m Sea Salt Spray - Gives texture and movement without the commitment of sand in your hair

Label.m Volume Mousse - Defined hold to create volume.'

When it comes to translating trends, what aspects are key in making this adaptable for clients?

'When translating trend, the key to making my look adaptable for clients is not over doing it, making the trend more commercial. Advising the client on how to achieve the looks with product recommendations and styling tips is also really important so they can recreate the look to suit their everyday life.'
