Redken artists Philip Barwick and Noah Hatton talked trends in their Fashion Forecast class at the 2013 Redken Symposium in Las Vegas.

Lifting the lid on the world of trend forecasting, the duo talked about the importance of looking back to see what's ahead, sharing their sources of inspiration and talking about how to translate catwalk trends into salon-friendly concepts.

And, in keeping with Redken's push for colour in 2013, Philip and Noah also discussed the shades and tones to watch for Spring/Summer and beyond.

The key word for all colours is 'beautiful' this year, with colourists saying a long-awaited farewell to hyper-fake designs.

Blondes will be ethereal, angelic and whimsical - with balayage still key for application. For reds, spice is key. Cinnamon, paprika and chilli powder take over from the Rihanna-reds of previous seasons for an all together more natural, yet still striking finish.

And for brunettes, it's all about warmth with ebony and cherry wood two firm favourites for the new season.
