With the year coming to a close it's time to look back at the trends that took 2015 by storm.

Extension experts Hair Development researched the most popular Google searches and have revealed the three hottest trends in the world of hair.

Braids

This summer welcomed the revival of the braid. Whether it was classic, grecian inspired fishtail braids, edgier takes on french and dutch braids or super sleek micro braids, when it came to festival season, braids took centre stage.

And thanks to pop up braid bars in the likes of Selfridges, Hershesons and the uber cool Keash Braids at Harvey Nichols, where clients can choose from a menu of several braided styles as well as optional extras to adorn their new 'do, including hair rings, hair charms and glitter. Brush up on your braiding techniques and make this work in salon by taking inspiration from FKA Twigs and Zoe Kravitz as braiding looks set to stay for 2016.

Georgia May Jagger

Bold Colour

When it came to colour in 2015 the motto had to be; the bolder the better. From Georgia May Jagger's unicorn palette to Zayn Malik's grey hue and the 50 shades of Kylie Jenner, soft pastels that became popular in 2014 moved on and embraced smokier finishes and bolder tones.

The Man-Bun

Of course we can't miss the boys out, and the man-bun rose to the top of the ranks when it came to styling. With the likes of Harry Styles, Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington and TOWIE regular Pete Wicks flying the flag for long haired men everywhere Creative Director of Hair Development, Janis Levy said, 'it's always interesting to see what hairstyles people are interested in and want to try at home. It’s no surprise to us that one of the hottest trends this year lends itself to a male trend, as we’ve had a surge in guys coming to us for hair extensions and other products.'
