The Secret Behind Molly-Mae’s Love Island Extensions
Love Island creates debates on Twitter, hilarious memes and most importantly, boundless hair inspiration. The Islanders have really upped their game with extensions this year, especially Molly-Mae Hague.
Molly-Mae has caused some serious envy in and out of the villa, not only for her partner Tommy but also for her hair extensions that still look incredible month’s into the show.
Recently, it has been revealed that she is wearing Beauty Works 20” Nano Bonds. They are suitable for achieving glamorous hair volume and are perfect for creating her signature ballerina style bun.
Jay Birmingham, celebrity stylist and owner of Jay Birmingham Hair, shares some tips and tricks on how to recreate Molly’s look in terms of extensions and styling.
Consult with Your Client
Client’s that want long and voluminous hair like Molly’s should choose a method similar to the nano bonds. They are not only long lasting but are also barely noticeable when worn tied up. The correct placement is essential to ensure the extensions last as long as possible.
As stylists, you should consult with your client and decide on personalised hair extensions. Whether they prefer to wear their hair up in a bun or, like Maura, prefer a glamorous wave most of the time, will determine the way in which you apply it and should play a part in where you place them as well.
Aftercare is a Key
Urge your clients to invest in a high-quality shampoo and conditioner. This aftercare step is crucial for maintaining hair extensions and ensuring they look healthy and fresh at all times.
In addition to this, a heat protection product that also protects against UVA and UVB rays is a must. Jay suggests: “On holiday especially, your hair is exposed to lots of sun as well as chlorine and salt water, not to mention styling at night before you head out so each time the hair is washed you should apply a heat protectant.”
How to Style
Molly Mae uses a wand to create her signature style. Jay’s tool of choice is the Hot Tools 24K Gold Curling Iron to recreate Molly’s hairstyle. He suggests to style the hair away from the face to create that voluminous blow out the shape and leave an inch to so straight at the ends for a contemporary finish. Jay adds: “Add some texturising spray to give the hair grip and ensure the waves stay in place all night just like Molly Mae’s.”
