The use of cbd is on the rise – but what are the cbd benefits for hair? The use of CBD oil is on the rise. A recent boom in the presence of CBD oil in the world of beauty and wellness follows the trend of brands harnessing the powers of natural essences for user benefits and now the hair industry is getting involved. But what are the CBD benefits for hair? When the oil first came into the realm of beauty, it arose a lot of questions, particularly regarding where the oil is from. CBD, which stands for cannabidiol oil, is taken from the cannabis plant. However, CBD is extracted from the hemp species of the plant it doesn't cause the same psychoactivity as THC, which is the active ingredient in the marijuana species of cannabis which gets users 'high'. While CBD has long been used in the alternative medical world to help with illness and ailments like epilepsy and arthritis, it's taken until recently to make its way into beauty, where it's used for treatments to calm and smooth. Beauty products containing the oil also boast of the ability to help fix skin concerns such as eczema and rosacea. And now the hair world is waking up to the positive benefits of CBD oil. The Spirit of Hemp CBD Treatment available at Hari's Salon on Fulham Road is describes as a 'transforming treatment for mind, body, hair and scalp' on the salon's website. "Hari’s CBD oil hair treatment harnesses the amazing properties of CBD and CBDA oil. This experience increases blood flow to the scalp, balancing sebum production, cleansing pores which encouraging hair growth, leaving hair shiny and lustrous. The CBD oil also helps calm and balance angry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis whilst relaxing, rebalancing and rejuvenating the entire body and mind," says Vanessa Essack, stylist at Hari’s. One thing that is a common misconception is that using CBD, in anyway, might result in feeling 'high', which is something that clients express as an initial concern prior to the treatment. "Most clients who have the treatment have heard about CBD oils as it is the new “it” super product of the moment but don’t realise that we use a full spectrum oil which offers a multitude of benefits," Vanessa says. She continues, "Some think they might feel ‘high’ from the treatment however, as there is no THC (which is what gives the natural high) in the oil so you wouldn’t feel anything other than a little more focused, calm and balanced." It's not just in-salon hair treatments that have seen the introduction of the use of CBD oil but also hair care products too. The popularity of CBD topical skincare encouraged distributor Earthly Body to launch EMERA CBD Haircare, a professional hair product line infused with CBD. "CBD has dramatically risen in popularity over the last several years. In fact, the CBD industry has been projected to reach as high as $22 Billion by 2020. This has been fuelled by greater awareness about CBD and its benefits, and a rising number of products, across all product forms, to meet that demand," says Dawn Blackstone, marketing director at Earthly Body. Alongside the calming and balancing affect that CBD can have for the skin and scalp, it also can help with the condition of the hair. "CBD contains all known 21 amino acids, high levels of essential fatty acids, and is rich in antioxidants," says Dawn. "It boosts collagen and elastin, which can increase the hair diameter, helping to give the appearance of fuller, thicker hair, and strengthening hair to promote reduced hair breakage and hair loss."
