Rainbow hair by vivienne mackinder Adding a splash of rainbow colour to long layers is the ideal summer sizzler – and this look by Vivienne Mackinder is guaranteed to put your clients in the spotlight. Part of her Boho Rock collection, the finished style can be ‘sewn’ through the top, or twisted into a modern top knot. Follow these steps to get the look: Colour: Colour the hair using the horizontal chevron pattern. 1 Take 2-4” sections of each colour, one next to the other on a straight, diagonal line. 2 Use direct dyes diluted with conditioner – used here are dusty tones of orange, green, blue and red. 3 Leave to process for 30-40 minutes, then rinse each individual colour with cold water. Get the style 1 Set the hair using the flat iron, waving the hair left and right working down the head to create a flat beach wave. 2 Divide the hair into sections on the top of the head, the largest top section is backcombed and smoothed off the face. 3 Take sections at the temples and braid into cornrows. 4 Take all the sections and sew with embroidery silk for added colour and texture. Get the top knot 1 Tie hair into two ponytails, leaving our hair at the hairline for softness. 2 Set both the ponytails with a large curling iron for movement. 3 Then twist them into top knots, pinning into place with long chignon pins. 4 Spray for hold and shine.
