Ross charles - 3 on-trend hairstyles you can create with razors When it comes to hairdressing there are so many tools and appliances that you can use to whip up the next 'it' style, that it can be easy to forget the humble razor when you're attempting to coif the next big thing. Ross Charles is bringing back razor cutting in a big way. Ross Charles Hairdressing is one of the Donald Scott NYC Ratpack and an official UK ambassador and stockist for the brand. Here he exclusively talks us through three of the current on-trend styles you can create with razors... Structured Bob Using a razor to create the popular structured bob works really well and whilst you will never get as blunt a finish as with scissors, the finish you do get is stunning nonetheless. My top tip for creating this style is to use two razors. I always have one that is really fresh and crisp and another that is slightly dull and has been used a little bit. The two blades compliment each other and help you create a sharp structured cut with just a fraction of softness. With the Chopstick Pro Razor, you can actually cut against the skin as there is a guard on the blade. To add the structured, blunt edge to that hair, tilt the head forward and hold hair against the nape of the neck before cutting. By holding the hair in place you will have ultimate control and be able to create a stunning precision cut. Long Fringes As we have seen, longer fringes and hair framing the face has become popular again and razors are fantastic for creating looks like this. Whether the client wants a choppy finish or a softer edge, the Donald Scott Carving Comb is great for this style, both the fine and the wide comb will work. This tool is ideal for weight reduction, with one side of the comb cutting at 100% you can take out length and bulk and then switch to the 50% cutting blade to reduce weight from the exact point required. As opposed to scissors, you can take out weight from the hair with pin point precision and are able to see the shape coming together as you cut. Androgynous Pixie Cut Masculine hair styles are popular amongst a number of females at the moment with influence from Ruby Rose and Kristen Stewart. My favourite is the Chopstick Pro Razor as it allows you to really sculpt the hair, I like to think of it as carving out the desired shape. Using the razors in slick short movements will help you to add definition and texture that you just wouldn’t be able to achieve with scissors. Remember to prepare the hair with the liquid tool glide prepare to protect the hair and help the razor slide effortlessly through the sections. Ross Charles Profile
