Lucy potter: how i opened my own salon at 25 Lucy Potter has crammed a lot into her young age including; award wins, specialist training, editorial shoots and she capped off her 25th year by opening her own salon, here she tells us how she achieved this dream at such a young age...  Believe in your vision I was self employed for 2 years renting a chair but my plan was always to have my own salon. For 5 years I drove past a building that I would always say "I want that as a salon one day," especially because it had a really big car park, which clients love. The building was empty for 10 years but after 5 years dreaming, in May 2017 I signed to take over the building, it was nothing but brick walls and concrete floor. Everyone thought I was crazy, but I saw a vision and I made it happen, it took 4 long months but I got there. Set Goals After qualifying In 2012 I auditioned and got a place on L'Oréal ID artist 2012-2014 it was 2 half years of intense training from the industries greats and I grew within my session work, where I performed in L'Oréal stage shows all over the country and abroad and took part backstage at fashion shows and photo shoots, whilst also growing my clientele in salon. I've gone on to achieve very well in competition work for colouring and styling. I wanted to now move to my next step which is salon ownership. lucy potter jamie stevens Don't just daydream Any hairdresser wanting to open their own salon I would have one piece of advice, if you want to be successful don't dream it, work for it! And work so so hard, live and breath your salon! Be inspired I really look up to Jamie Stevens which is why I asked him to open the salon. I love his passion for what he does and how well he has done with his salon ownership and any advice he has given me to help me, I will hold with me forever! Keep it moving I hope to win lots of awards with the salon, I am concentrating on photo shoots for images to send off for competitions this year, now I have the salon I have more time to concentrate on being creative with photo shoots and more creative work, while the salon can tick over without me due to my amazing team! lucy potter salon
