Your client's winter haircare dramas solved Winter weather can throw a lot at hair. From cranked up central heating to biting temperatures, not to mention frizz-inducing rain to freezing conditions, it’s a recipe for bad hair days. Luckily, your clients have got you on hand to help tackle winter haircare dramas. We spoke to the experts to find out what you can offer in salon to combat any winter haircare mishaps.

Nourishing treats

In winter, the combination of cold weather and dry indoor heat can cause split ends and hair breakage. “The dry air deprives hair of moisture and can cause damage,” explains Virtue creative director Adir Abergel. “The Virtue Healing Oil creates a protective shield against static and allows hair to stay supple, shiny and soft. The lightweight formula is infused with our patented Alpha Keratin 60ku which fills in the damage, while the three super oils provide nourishment.” The newly launched Healing Oil from Virtue is loaded with Alpha Keratin 60ku. It also contains three oils (Kalahari Melon, Coconut and Birrhea Seed), as well as Tahitian Gardenia Flower Extract. This combination helps protect dry, brittle hair from the harsh elements.

Dry hair soothers

Afro and highly textured hair tends to be drier than other hair textures, and this is especially the case in the winter months. The combination of cold, dry air and artificial heating systems can deplete hair of moisture. The Oribe Moisture and Control collection has been developed especially for coily, kinky and very curly hair types. Stacey Ciceron, brand ambassador for Oribe haircare says: “The Oribe Moisture and Control Collection includes products that hydrate the hair to protect against breakage. The Moisture & Control Deep Treatment Masque for example adds moisture and protects against breakage and repair damage. The Styling Butter Curl Enhancing Crème adds moisture back into the hair when setting curls.” The styling products in the Moisture & Control Collection for Highly Textured Hair include Murumuru, Mango and Cocoa Seed butters. Rich in essential vitamins, they help to repair, hydrate and help prevent damage. These butters smooth the cuticle to strengthen hair and protect from breakage while detangling and increasing shine. The Moisture & Control Deep Treatment Masque includes coconut oil to penetrate the hair shaft to nourish and soften while sealing the cuticle, enhancing shine.

Backwash treatments

Exposing hair to the harsh elements can cause frizz, damage and can contribute to scalp issues. To keep hair healthy and nourished an intense deep repair mask is the perfect treatment to offer in salon. Perfect for pre lightened or chemically abused hair too, OSMO Deep Moisture Treatment is a salon favourite. Plus, the treatment also now comes in sachets that clients can purchase to continue the good work at home. “The Deep Moisture treatment helps revive tired, broken and dull hair," explains Heffy Wheeler, owner of HX Hair and OSMO ambassador. "It injects a hydrating mixture of jojoba, ylang ylang to improve elasticity, control excess sebum production and improve scalp health.”

Scalp SOS

Winter can irritate or worsen a scalp condition thanks to extremes in temperature (think going from freezing temps outside, to stuffy centrally heated offices). Whether your clients scalp is oily, sensitised or dry by offering a bespoke scalp treatment you can help to soothe and revitalise scalp and hair. Blue Tit London, in their collaboration with Oway, have launched five scalp treatment plans. The scalp treatments are focused around Rebalancing, Soothing and Purifying. The stylist identifies what the client’s scalp needs during an analysis. The treatment concludes with a massage to off-set the indulgent treatment.
