Phorest salon software pledges €10,000 to ocean cleanup project charity
Phorest Salon Software has recently pledged to raise €10,000 for the Ocean Cleanup project charity. The company have held different events in their offices to raise money and have nearly met their €10k target.
The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organisation, is developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. The charity is designing a cleanup systems to clear the waste which is polluting oceans and to intercept plastic travelling to the ocean via rivers.
A significant percentage of the plastic that enters the oceans from rivers and other sources drifts into large systems of circulating ocean currents, known as gyres. Once trapped in a gyre, the plastic slowly breaks down into micro-plastics and this is easily mistaken for food by sea animals. However, the Ocean Cleanup organisation has created The Intercepto, the first scalable solution to prevent plastic from entering the world’s oceans from rivers. It is 100% solar-powered, extracts plastic autonomously and can be placed in the majority of the world’s most polluting rivers. The Ocean Cleanup project's ultimate goal is to reach a 90% reduction of floating ocean plastic by the year 2040. If you would like to donate to Phorest's Ocean Cleanup pledge, click here.
