On 2 May 2022, hairdressers are calling on the whole hairdressing community to unite for Hair2Help Ukraine, to raise much-needed funds for those in crisis.
Hair2Help Ukraine is calling out for owners to donate their salons, and staff to donate their time and talent for a single day. Clients will then donate their payment for the services via a Just Giving Page.
The event takes place on 2 May to mark the MAYDAY! call for help, and the organisers are hoping for as many salons as possible to get involved.
Hair2Help Ukraine was created by Shelley Line of The Haircare Share, Norwich and Mario Charalambous, of Richard Ward, London, who felt compelled to act after seeing the harrowing events unfolding in Ukraine.
Mario explains: "I come from a family of refugees from the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. Luckily, I fled Cyprus on the last flight out with my nan, otherwise, I could have been one of the refugees we are currently seeing.
Shelley was a 7/7 survivor, so we both feel incredibly lucky and we just want to do something to help. We're asking hairdressers and barbers to come together to help raise £10,000.”
Money raised by Hair2Help Ukraine will be donated to three charities: The British Red Cross (Ukraine), Unicef and The Blue Cross.
How can I get involved?
It could not be simpler to get involved. All you have to do is:
- Pick a day (Mayday, May 2nd, is ideal)
- Choose the services you will offer. Recommended services include Treatments, blowdries and trims.
- Shout about your Hair2Help Ukraine Event on social media and in any other marketing (There’s a downloadable graphic to promote your event)
- Have the QR code clearly on display in your salon so clients can easily donate.
