These 90s icons are taking us back in hair-time 90s TV and film icons Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Garner, Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway have put us in a time warp with their latest hair transformations. From pixie cuts to XXL extensions, we think these celebs' latest looks will be in your client's inspiration pictures for the upcoming season of celebrations. jennifer aniston 90s hair allure Jennifer Aniston's four-part photoshoot comes to us in light of her recent interview with Allure Magazine, discussing her fertility struggles and the ways she has been portrayed in the media. This shoot took us back to season six of Friends, the 2022 incarnation of the 1999 Rachel Green with her pin-straight XXL extensions and signature caramel blonde. “I love how her look has evolved over the years while still referring back to her original look. Her recent Allure cover was genius, it gives that nod to her 90’s self when it’s making that all-important comeback,” says Nicola Hutchinson, owner of Salon T.Elle. “This winter, those warm, golden tones are definitely the go-to colour.” “I think the cover is fantastic. Oozing confidence, Jennifer Aniston proves that age is just a number, and this cover to me is a big statement that combats stereotypes around age and beauty - beauty is all-encompassing,” adds Jack Merrick-Thirlway at Neville Hair & Beauty. Of course, the classic Rachel Green curly blowdry is still being asked for in salons everywhere. “I am a huge fan of 90s hair, for me, it’s all about big volume hair with lots of layers so it flicks out. Essential products are a big round brush, hair mousse and Velcro rollers. Think Rachel Green from Friends meets Cher from Clueless,” Anna Stubbs, one of Vivienne John’s A-List hairdressers, tells us. jennifer garner 90s icon hair From one Jen to another, Jennifer Garner recently debuted her shortest chop in years. It's quite the transformation from her long chocolate brown locks she’s remained loyal to for the majority of her career, created by stylist Adir Abergel and coined the "Jen G for Gen Z". Carolyn Newman, UK ambassador for INSIGHT Professional, says one cut we can expect to see this winter is ‘The Midi’, a soft layered collarbone bob, which is exactly what Jennifer has brought us. michelle williams 90s hair Having grown out her pixie cut, Michelle Williams returned to the spotlight with her champagne blonde hair styled into a sharp, jaw-length bob. Her character in Dawson’s Creek, Jen, wore a bob of varying lengths throughout the six seasons, mainly accompanied by natural texture and waves and various fringes. This modern adaptation of the signature look is now styled sleek and straight, with a healthy shine and gentle root smudge for a more natural look. Nicole Scherzinger is right there with Michelle on the ‘bob bandwagon’, having just cut off her long tresses for a short, blunt bob. Slightly longer than Michelle’s just hovering above Nicole’s shoulders, this is a great starting length for clients venturing into shorter hair – it’s easily styled and pulled back into updos. Nicole scherzinger bob Following the announcement of her upcoming role in Armageddon Time, Anne Hathaway wowed Instagram with a new bouffant pixie cut. Although we suspect this new look may be a wig, the post took us right back to Anne Hathaway circa 2013 and we love it. Another of Carolyn Newman’s winter trend predictions is ‘The Modern Crop’, defined as a softer, longer version of the pixie cut. “A pixie cut needs to be personalised for different face shapes,” says Marina Hodgins, owner of Fringe Benefits Gloucester. “Customising texture and softness is key – if your client has thicker hair, a choppy pixie cut works well and if they have finer hair, a longer layered pixie cut will compliment them nicely. The correct finishing products, such as a paste or sea salt spray, is a must to add texture and a lived-in look.” anne Hathaway pixie 90s “When cutting a pixie cut, think carefully about the edges and texture of this haircut so it really suits your client's features. Can they wear blunt lines or softness around the edges, sleek or texture on the crown?” adds Carolyn. “I love a little sass in a pixie cut, to add something different I like leaving a longer sideburn to give that cool Salt & Pepper’s 90s vibe which is really sexy and fashionable. Think statement hair without doing too much because there’s little-to-no maintenance,” says Lisa Carter, colour expert at The Crowning Stylist. The love for 90s hair is universal and clearly here to stay after the stamp of approval from these four TV and film icons. We can’t wait to see these looks cropping up on our Instagram.
