Avril lavigne brings back dip-dye

Avril lavigne brings back dip-dye Singer Avril Lavigne has unveiled a new – or rather, old – hairstyle as she relaunches her music career since signing with DTA Records. The “Sk8r Boi” singer debuted the luminous pink dip-dye when she joined Mod Sun on stage in October, taking fans back to 2007 when she first wore baby pink highlights in her buttery blonde hair. She would then famously change the style up every few months with a different pink style, ranging from highlights to a statement side fringe. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVLp0hhBflH/   In recent years, the star turned to a more natural looking blonde as she set out to make her return to the limelight, but is now reverting to the recognisable pink accents she was known for over a decade ago. https://www.instagram.com/p/CV5nzQ1vjH8/ Lavigne’s step back in time has us asking two questions: are 00s hairstyles coming back, and why do clients revert to their previous styles? Here’s what the professionals had to say:

Simon Hill, owner of SESH Hairdressing

"I think sometimes clients find their signature style that they love and suits them perfectly. Deviating away from this can be fun and exciting for a change but it is natural to gravitate back towards what you know. Trends are often in a continual cycle, and we see them come back around with a contemporary twist every few years. I think we can expect to see more styles from the 00’s becoming popular next year."

Brian Leo McCallum, owner of ROAR Hair and Beauty

"Avril Lavigne’s latest colour definitely shows that 00’s trends are coming back. When celebrities revert to previously popular styles like this, it does create a buzz around that look. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s likely that you will be talking about it and that does give some popularity to these styles."

Jay Birmingham, celebrity hairdresser

"There are a number of 00’s styles making a comeback, but it’s important to bring a modern twist when incorporating these styles into your look today. With my clients, I like to drive their style on. Using extensions is an amazing way to try something new with their style. I love to use them to add length, volume and texture for different looks. This also gives clients the freedom to revert back to their former style if they want to. You can even add colour with the addition of extensions, so the options are endless."

Michael Convey, OSMO global ambassador

"Clients sometime revert to former hairstyles with a modern twist. I ask clients their most stand out cut or colour over the years that really brought a smile to their face, as this will help me to adapt or suggest a style and colour for them. People will remember how they feel, and that positive feeling is what they’re looking for again. The money piece was a 90s revival, so it makes sense that a new decade is now being seen. I’m really liking the Avril 2021 dip dye, it’s a softer version to the hard lines of dip dye of past."
