Online hairdressing education is expanding its horizons as technology becomes ever more sophisticated.

Content: HABIA's U2Learn site provides anytime, anywhere access to a wealth of interactive activities that will enliven and engage students at school, college or in the workplace. Theory as it applies to today's dynamic hair and beauty industry is brought to life, transporting students beyond the classroom into a variety of realistic hair and beauty settings.

Content: This site, supported by leading education public body JISC, boasts professionally designed resources with quizzes, worksheets and guidance videos. The service is also mapped to the NVQ hairdressing curriculum with a list of mandatory and optional modules.

Content: This members only site covers both male and female cuts as well as advice on product use and styling. There's also a discussion zone for fellow trainees to chat to each other and ask questions.

Content: Love Hairdressing features video demonstrations of all aspects of the craft from leading industry names. There are also advanced level lectures for qualified stylists, advice and articles on salon management and tools to help with the transition from apprentice to fully fledged stylist.

Content: PPCSEs break new ground with multiple choice exams written for hairdressers, colourists, beauty therapists, nail technicians, barbers and salon/spa receptionists. Customer care knowledge and standards, simple selling techniques and etiquette are all tested.

Cost: £18 per exam. Free (one per productive team member) to all businesses with a valid PHAB Standard as part of their annual application fee.
