Mark leeson talks building a succesful salon business Multi-award-winning hairdresser and salon owner, Mark Leeson, offers his advice for growing a succesful salon business that stands the test of time. "We’ve always done business our way. We built the business from our own savings and have never had any other investment, so every decision has been our way. Everything we do is about the team. We give the team opportunities to get involved in everything we do, all over the world.  This creates an amazing culture. We treat everyone we work with respectfully and as if they were a client. From the make-up artist to the models on a shoot, they are all treated like a VIP client. As a result people want to work with us time after time. We're not afraid to be different and push boundaries. If you truly want to create unique hair you have to take a risk with your vision. We have taken financial risks, but they’ve always been calculated and we’ve always believed in ourselves and our team to make them work. Taking time out of the business to look at the bigger picture is crucial…we work hard and our schedule is very busy, so taking a step back from time to time is vital. Accepting that we all have different strengths and weaknesses is imperative in business, and make the most of them all. We have always discovered each individual’s strength, found out what motivates them, and treated everyone as an individual. Our brand has been important to us from day one, and every element of our business reflects the Mark Leeson brand. From the coffee we serve to the hand soap in the bathroom and the haircuts clients leave with – it is all five star. Never spread yourself too thinly. We decided our business focus would be awards and the competition circuit many years ago, and that’s what we focussed on. Do one thing and do it well, but don’t try and be all things to all people – you will lose your focus."
