Introducing beauty services to your salon business Introducing Beauty Services to Your Salon BusinessIntroducing beauty services to your salon business can be a quick and easy way to add to your bottom line, but if you have no experience of the beauty industry it can be tricky to know where to start. Nilam Holmes-Patel, founder of HD Brows, has plenty of experience of helping salon owners launch beauty services - here she shares her expertise. 1. Clients are always looking for a quick fix and offering innovative beauty services in your salon means that you can cash in on this lucrative market. If you’re thinking of adding beauty to your hairdressing salon menu, do your homework. Make sure you will be offering the products and services that meet your target market's wants and needs. It pays to research, so ask your existing clients what they would like to see on the menu and act accordingly. 2. The advantages of offering add-on beauty services, such as HD Brows, is the additional revenue stream it can bring to your business. Once you have trained as an HD Brows stylist, for example, you can charge between £25-£45 per treatment (depending on your location and skill level). This means that by offering just five treatments a day you can bring in £32,500 per annum, with minimal product outlay. 3. Constantly review what you’re offering and look at ways to refresh your salon's services in line with each season and the latest trends. For example, later this year we will be introducing an express style HD Brows treatment and a brow lightening treatment too, which, once trained in these disciplines, will allow our stylists to offer additional services on their treatment menu, meeting the demands of clients with busy lifestyles and fairer tones. 4. Don’t forget about the men. Offering beauty services to your male clientele is another great way to increase your sales – you’d be surprised how many men are hooked after they give it a go. 5. Wake up to make up: alongside your beauty services, take a look at offering retail ranges too. We have just launched Make Up by HD Brows – a 76-strong collection of premium beauty products for the brows, eyes, skin, and lips. Offering eye-catching retail ranges in the beauty arena will make you more of a one-stop shop for your clients, ensuring they come to you for both beauty and hairdressing purchases, rather than the high street. 6. Make your salon a haven for trend-savvy clients. While they already visit you for seasonal on-trend haircare advice, offering beauty and make-up services means you can offer the same advice in this arena, too. 7. The beauty industry is always evolving and diversifying to meet demand, and consumers today are thoroughly researched. They will always ask for tips, tricks and tutorials on how to use products properly, in order to gain the best results. Ensure your beauty therapists are proficient and knowledgeable in everything you offer, so that your clients’ needs are fully catered for. 8. Training pays. It’s important to invest in a credible training course that your clients will recognize, so researching thoroughly from the outset is key. If there is a demand for a certain treatment, ensure you invest in training at the highest level, so your educational expenditure is truly worthwhile. In this arena you really do get what you pay for. The devil is in the detail and your clients will stay loyal if you offer them the best, so it pays to do your research. 9. Look at how you can cross promote your hairdressing and beauty businesses. In industries that are all about looking good it makes sense to ensure that the two worlds can collide to the benefit of your clients, and your revenue. If you are a salon renowned for offering bridal services, why not look at how you can add in brow and beauty packages to complement? 10. When you launch your beauty services look at offering promotions for a limited period to enhance interest. Sampling something new, that your clients might not have previously considered, is the perfect way to spark their excitement and encourage them to try a complete pamper session.
