HJ‘s British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional is now open for entries and we cannot wait to see who will make the cut this year. And now to add to the excitement there are new categories that have been added to the list you can enter, including Trend Image of the Year.

What is Trend Image of the Year?

This new category is to showcase the talent that young stylists working across the UK have to offer. It is specifically for commercial looks, the styles that clients will be pinning on Pinterest and saving to their Instagram. It’s about styles that make customers say “I want that hair!”

Who can enter?

This category is open to freelance, self-employed and salon-based hairdressers aged 30 and under who are either training or qualified. You need to supply a single 10” x 8” image showing commercial, wearable, trend-led hair that salon clients will be queueing up for.

How do you enter?

1. 1 FINAL IMAGE – The single image must be 10” deep x 8” wide (portrait). The size includes any borders. Photographs can be supplied on photographic paper purchased through a photographer or photographic outlet.

2. BEFORE IMAGE – You must supply a ‘before’ picture of the model taken on the day of the shoot prior to any hair work, make-up or styling. This should be no larger than 10” deep x 8” wide. Failure to provide these may result in disqualification.

3. PRE-PRODUCTION – You must supply an “after” shot of the model before any post-production/retouching. This should be no larger than 10” deep x 8” wide. The organisers and judges reserve the right to question any photographs which appear to be computer enhanced. Failure to provide these may result in disqualification.

Any restrictions?

Entrants can use wigs and/or hairpieces but the image has to be show consumer-friendly hair and should not be avant garde. You must only use one model.
