HJ's British Hairdressing Awards faqs

All the facts so you’re up to speed with what is expected from your entry for HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.

Here HJ’s event manager, Lizzi Diggins, details everything you need to know about the entry process for the Awards…

Can I enter a category I’ve entered before with the same images?

You are not allowed to enter an entire collection that you have previously submitted but instead you can enter the very best images you have from the entries you have shot over the years to form a new collection. Using a maximum of two images from previously entered collections

Can I enter images from previous collections I have shot for the BHA?

Yes, you can but you cannot enter the entire collection – two images maximum from each collection

I have already shot a new collection for the Awards this year, can I still enter it?

Yes, we are aware that some people have already shot collections for #bha20, and these can be entered as planned

I have shot more pictures than I have needed in previous years, can these be entered as a collection?

Yes, if they have not been entered into the British Hairdressing Awards before, you can enter them as a collection

Can I enter the same category more than once?

The rules on entering categories remain the same, you cannot enter the same category more than once. If entering a regional category, you can only enter from one salon in one region in any one year. If entering Newcomer or Avant Garde, your pictures can’t be entered into any other category. For the Newcomer category entrants to this category may not enter any other category and previous winners cannot re-enter this category. If entering Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year the same six images can be entered into a region. No image entered into Trend Image can be entered into any other category.

Do I still need to provide before and pre-edit shots?

Yes, these are mandatory for the Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year category. For all other categories we ask that if you have these then please do send them with your entry. If you do not have these then please provide your contact sheet from the shoot

Do I still need to provide the 360 degree video?

No, due to the unprecedented circumstances this year we understand that you may not have a video to support the images submitted from a previous shoot

When compiling images from previous collections to make a new entry and multiple photographers are involved will multiple signatures need to be supplied from Photographers as they will be images that have previously been entered and accredited will they been taken on good faith?

These will be accepted in good faith.

When submitting images from previous collections, but we are no longer in possession of model before shots or raw images before retouching, will entries still be permitted and accepted in good faith?

Please provide all supporting images that you have or a contact sheet from the shoot if available.

If I am entering the Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year category and using images from previous collections what should I do about using the Schwarzkopf Professional Chroma ID products?

We understand that these images have already been shot and so will not have used the new Schwarzkopf Professional Chroma ID products. As with previous year’s entries we ask that you submit your entry with the Colour questionnaire to list the products used at the time, all of which should be from Schwarzkopf Professional. Please contact [email protected] to receive the questionnaire.

What will the procedure be for British nominees?

British nominees will be contacted directly with further information.

If I am entering previous collections, how will the judging process remain anonymous, or will it be a different way to judge this year?

As with previous year’s, with the exception of the British Hairdresser of the Year category, entrants have been able to submit published work. The judging process will still hold the upmost integrity as any judge who has an entrant in a category in their employment or has given advice to any entrant in a category, is not allowed to judge that category. Once score sheets are handed into our independent auditors they cannot be changed. Judges are not allowed to discuss any entries before, during or after the judging, with each signing a non- disclosure agreement. The whole procedure is supervised and strictly controlled.

Can I still enter as a duo?

Yes you can enter as a duo if the images you are entering are from your joint collections. You cannot enter as a duo if you are entering images that belong to only one of you.

How do I print my images, is this the same as in previous years?
