British hairdresser of the year nominee: phil smith

phil-british-nominee.jpgWhen Phil Smith fell in love with a girl he saw working in his local salon in 1980, little did he realise it would change his life in more ways than one. Not only did he marry her (Louise, pictured left), but he also followed in her career choice and became a hairdresser. And, since then, he hasn't looked back.

With a portfolio of salons across the world and a plethora of awards for his creative skill as well as his business acumen, Phil also has a consumer range and is a favourite with consumer magazines. For the past eight years, he has been nominated for HJ's British Hairdresser of the Year - something he has always wanted to achieve.

"I've spent years admiring my icons who have entered the awards, and am surprised that I have been nominated myself," he states. How would he feel to actually win? "I can't imagine how I'd feel, otherwise I would be a nervous wreck on the night."

Phil's passion is to make his client - whether client or model - look and feel beautiful, and he hopes this formula will one day win him the ultimate title. As for now, it's about remaining focused - on his business, his team, his clients and his dreams.
