There's a new blonde term in town – what is chardonnay blonde? After we lost our cool over the coolest blonde trend this year, Scandi blonde, we weren't sure we were ready to introduce a new blonde hue into the fold. However, after spying chardonnay blonde in our Instagram feed we think we can make an exception.

What is Chardonnay Blonde?

Talented colourist Ashlee Allen created this hue – @aaashleee on Instagram – a balayage specialist based in Michigan, USA . The colour consists of layers of icy sections over ever-so-slightly warmer blonde sections giving this look a complex yet natural feel. Babylights around the hairline frame the face, and Ashlee colours the rest of the hair is with a balayage technique. This ensures a seamless look and easy grow out.

Who does Chardonnay Blonde suit?

"Chardonnay blonde is idyllic for anyone with long blonde hair and young people on a budget. It’s less maintenance compared to full head highlights meaning fewer times in the salon," says Karine Jackson. "In addition, this free-hand colouring technique is great for cooler skin tones as stylists can allow for lighter and darker pieces in the hair. Unfortunately dark hair would not suit this colour as it would pull out the under tones and go too red." Lead image via @aaashleee Instagram
