The essential tools to take into schools this national careers week The Choose Hair campaign, sponsored by Hairdressers Journal International has created a fun and interactive booklet and a lesson plan to share with young people in schools during National Careers Week, which takes place on 4 - 9 March. The aim is to encourage hairdressers to go into schools and talk to students about why becoming an apprentice and starting a lifelong career in the exciting world of hairdressing could change their lives forever. The booklet, which is free to download from our website here, features a quiz on whether hairdressing is the right career for you, a career timeline and the different types of roles a young person could try once they've become a qualified hairdresser. The 20 minute lesson plan is a simple way for hairdressers to share their hairdressing expertise and allows you to find out how students feel about apprenticeships and it gives you the opportunity to dispel any myths and to share the benefits of taking part in a work-based training programme. The lesson plan will also involve brainstorming ideas with students about how a hairdresser spends their day, the qualities they need to have and the steps students will need to take to become a hairdressing apprentice. For more information about how to promote hairdressing as a career for young people, go to choosehair.co.uk.
