Introducing 'coiled': the all-new podcast about black hair A brand new UK podcast documentary series named Coiled is set to launch October 1 and will explore the different aspects of Black hair and aim to dispel the myth that Black hair is complicated. The eight-part series will be hosted and produced by Leanne Alie of In-Clued Productions – a content creator who has previously worked for award winning podcasts such as Dope Black Dads Podcast, Dope Black Women and Time to Talk with Alex Holmes, as well as further credits with the British Podcast Awards, Audio UK, the London Podcast Festival, Digital Radio UK, BBC, Global and Spotify. Sylvie Carlos will serve as assistant producer. https://www.instagram.com/p/CUVbZkQAAl_/ Coiled will explore the history of Afro hair and how colonialism has impacted society’s attitudes towards Afro hair. Some of the key questions that will be answered include where the human hair used for wigs and waves comes from, who owns the Black hair industry and how important it is to buy from Black owned businesses.  Other crucial topics that will be covered include the truth about the chemicals used in hair relaxers and the impact they are having on Black women’s health, the origins of the natural hair movement, how to maintain any texture of Black hair, Black men’s relationship, and celebrating those who are paving the way for better representation of Afro hair in the UK. Throughout, host Leanne will embark on her own hair journey by transitioning from chemically straightened hair back to natural following 16 years of relaxed hair. Coiled will also welcome a number of guest speakers and Black hair experts from the UK onto the show, including: Lekia Lee – founder of Project Embrace Serlina Boyd – creator of Cocoa Girl Magazine Michelle De Leon – founder of World Afro Day Zina Alfa – activist and member of the Halo Collective Mimi Kone – celebrity hair stylist Shirley McDonald and Ebuni Ajiduah – trichologists Professor Emma Tarlo and Dr Kadian Pow – academics Sandra Brown Pinnock – owner of XSandy’s Valley Fountaine – journalist and author Derrek Clements – celebrity hair stylist and Splinters alumni Rudi Page – formerly of Dyke and Dryden Peter Mudahy – CEO of Pak’s Cosmetics,   On the podcast, Leanne commented: "I’m a huge advocate of Black people making the content we want to see in the world instead of waiting for it to happen. I created Coiled as it is the podcast that I would have loved to have heard when I was growing up and it would have completely changed the way I felt about myself and my hair. This podcast is for all Black women and men who have gone on a journey with their hair and especially those from the younger generation so we can fully encourage them to embrace their natural hair in it’s natural beauty from a young age, as all hair is good hair.:

The first episode will be available on October 1 in line with Black History Month. Episodes will be released weekly, every Friday, and available on all major podcast platforms. Keep up to date with the Coiled Instagram page.
