Wahl and rick roberts reveal the essential tools for afro hair Whether it’s creating definition, drying without damage or adding texture, there’s a wide variety of tools designed for Afro hair out there, and it gets confusing knowing what works the best. To get to the bottom of it, we spoke to WAHL and the current British Hairdressing Afro Stylist of the Year Rick Roberts for their take on the best tools for Afro hair.

For defined natural curls

Afro Tools Rick recommends the 19mm Wahl Pro Shine Curling Tong for defined curls. Using the 19mm tong enables Rick to create definition between natural curls underneath and then using a tong on the top area for defined curls. He uses it in a horse shoe section from the recession area all the way around the crown and back to the front. The great thing about these tongs is they set the hair incredibly quick, even with less heat. Price: £35.99 Available at wahl.co.uk

For volume without damage

Afro Tools The Pro Keratin Dryer is ideal for all hair texture types, including Afro because it infuses keratin into the hair and dries without damage. With 2,200W it has the power to create volume from the roots and blow-dry naturally textured or curly hair. You don’t need to apply too much heat, so the hair can be kept in a natural state with added shine. It’s a beautiful dryer to work with and Rick uses it with the new Universal Diffusor for defining curly styles. Price: £47.99 Available at wahl.co.uk

For shine and texture

Afro Tools Rick uses the Pro Shine Conical Wand to create a variation of curls running through the hair by switching from the thin to thick end easily. It can also be used for adding additional texture to the hair. With any hair texture, these tools work well to add shine and minimise damage to the hair. For Rick, it’s a go-to tool as it’s quick to style and sets the hair perfectly. Price: £35.99 Available at wahl.co.uk   This article is sponsored by WAHL.
