5 Hair Colour Trends That Are Set to Dominate in 2024

Moving into a new year and a new season represents a clean slate and time for your clients to switch up their style. From earthy mushroom browns and apricot copper to pearlescent whites and vibrant Capri blues, these are the shades predicted to dominate in 2024 by the experts at Live True, London.

Pearlescent Whites

While warm toned shades like honey and caramel are traditionally fall favourites, in 2024 we’re expecting a big rise in cooler tones and shades of blonde like bright Pearlescent White.

“To get this look bleach is painted all over the hair. The hair will need to be lifted very brightly and may take 2-3 or more sessions. Depending on the condition of your client’s hair, it may not be achievable as it is an extremely bright shade,” says Tyler Moore, Expert Stylist at Live True London. Which is why it's important to address this in a consultation with your client.

Apricot Copper

We are beginning to see a rise in more tangy copper shades – apricot, peach, and strawberry. These give the hint of copper and red tones whilst staying close to lighter shades, making it the perfect transitional look going into spring 2024.

“This colour can be worn as a balayage, highlights or all over colour. The bleached parts of your client’s hair can be coloured with a vivid colour to get a juicy, ultra-bright shade, or opting for a balayage can be easier for clients to maintain. This look is relatively easy to achieve as hair tends to lift warmer, meaning you don’t have to lift it as much to achieve a bright red colour,” says Tyler.

Vibrant Capri Blues

For those clients who are looking to make a bold statement going into the new year, Vibrant Capri Blue is the perfect colour. Seen at NYFW, Vibrant Capri Blue is set to be one of the key colours for 2024 according to Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report.

“This colour can be achieved by either all over bleach or highlights,” says Tyler. “It will be easiest to achieve on clients with light hair, as the darker the hair the brighter you will have to lift it first, and the more likely it will turn warm as you do so, which in turn can involve colour correction and therefore be a longer process. Blues like this will also stay in the hair a lot longer but are still high maintenance.”

Streaky Strands

Continuing to be a strong colour trend are chunky highlights, but not as we know them! Not only will we continue to see highlights framing the face, but we will see streaks of bright blonde/white placed randomly throughout the rest of the hair.

“This look is achieved like chunky highlights, with thick strands painted where desired. The look works best against the stark contrast of dark hair with no other colour in it, so we suggest pairing this look with a darker all over tint,” advises Tyler.

Mushroom Brown

For 2024, we’re going to see a resurgence in the popularity of natural earthy brunettes, particularly cooler tones and clients asking for a balayage close to their root colour. Think classic medium-dark shades that read more natural, with earthy tones, and mushroom browns.
