Radiance MediSpa, the winner of HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards Salon Design category, stylishly combines hair and beauty. When Dr Ros Debenham bought the lease on her Exeter property, she knew it was the right time to expand her beauty business and incorporate hair services. With a successful aesthetics business attracting a loyal clientele, Ros took seven months transforming the premises into a vast hair and beauty space that was intimate and friendly. Now, the Radiance MediSpa includes a 1,500sq ft salon with eight styling stations and bespoke furniture. Working with Olymp, Ros set out to create a salon where clients could take advantage of both hair and beauty services under one roof in an environment that was welcoming, calm and refreshing. While the salon uses a combination of solid and purple glass to give a light and airy feeling, the reception area is more opulent and welcoming. “The waiting area needs to be grand as it is the gateway to the salon,” Ros explains. A large comfortable sofa dominates the area while muted colours are relaxing and friendly. All the bespoke furniture throughout the salon oozes luxury, using a light ivory laminate to reflect quality and style. One of the main features is a fresco wall which showcases one of the salon’s images. “It is a great talking point between clients and adds real impact,” Ros adds. And once they are relaxed in the backwash zone, they can sit at one of the eight styling stations, two of which are curtained off for extra privacy and are proving especially popular with Ros’s Muslim clients. Dramatic large framed mirrors dominate the main salon area, reflecting both natural and ambient lighting and creating the illusion of a vast open space. Even before the salon clinched the title for her, Ros was delighted with her new-look business. The salon’s simple design, freshness and sense of privacy were just some of the reasons why she was awarded the Salon Design accolade at HJ’s 2014 British Hairdressing Business Awards.
