Errol Douglas

Age: 43 Salon: Errol Douglas, Knightsbridge
What is your biggest achievement? Being awarded the MBE – it’s an incredible acknowledgement of hairdressing as a really worthwhile career If you weren't a hairdresser what would you be? I’d be a doctor – I like looking after people How would your clients describe you? Reliable, always there for them, and interesting – there’s never a dull moment! Which one style do you wish you had created? I see myself more as looking forward to styles that are yet to be created... Who is your style icon? Tom Ford Who is your hairdressing idol? I really admire Robert Lobetta’s work Which hairdresser would you most like to work with (past or present)? Anthony Mascolo Who cuts your hair? Mani at my salon Favourite part of the job? Seeing people happy Who is your most famous client past or present? Brad Pitt past – Uma Thurman present Last time you were lost for words? When I received the Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year award – I was speechless! Which one product couldn't you live without? Matrix’s Vavoom hairspray Is there anything about the industry that makes you mad? Jealousy What's the biggest gaffe you've made in your career? I did a show in Switzerland and turned up at the wrong end of the country and started going nuts that my models weren’t there – I was at the wrong address completely but I was so irate that everyone got caught up in the moment and started trying to find the models, even though there was no show scheduled! What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given? Never take short cuts and plan for everything… Last time you were star-struck? At Buckingham Palace - meeting the Queen Time you were most proud to be in hairdressing? Receiving my MBE - it’s brilliant when the outside world recognises hairdressing for its fantastic contribution to society. What celebrity haircut do you wish had never caught on? Jennifer Aniston’s ‘The Rachel’ cut – it didn’t really suit anyone! What haircut would you love to make a come-back and how would you re-invent it for the noughties? The Purdy – I love it; I’d put shorter layers on top but leave the chunky edge it has. Or, I’d take the back out and have the signature Purdy front… Sleek and shiny or messy bed hair? Sleek and shiny
