Tigi and the extremism versus realism debate

As anyone that reads my blog knows, I haven’t seen that many hair shows, but after watching Tigi’s amazing presentation prior to its Photographic Competition Awards dinner, any show I see from now on will have a lot to live up to. The theme was realism versus extremism, a simple but effective platform to show some fantastic styles from the commercial to the avant garde. While stunning models strutted their stuff in some beautiful and funky outfits on the catwalk, a 3D visual commentary played on screens on either side, ensuring Tigi’s products were – it felt literally – in the faces of the audience.

The show worked brilliantly, without being over-complicated and loosing itself in the amateur dramatics that can sometimes detract from the products and collections being presented. No-one would have left the theatre without being aware of the versatility of the Tigi range or the diversity of its Ricochet collection. Stunning stuff. The same audience was treated to a far less stunning sight later on that evening when, during the awards presentation, my face loomed 30 feet high on two giant screens, talking about the high calibre of entries. I can’t really say how my screen debut panned out - as predicted, I had my ears blocked and my eyes screwed shut throughout. If not for a kindly tap on the shoulder and some reassuring words from Tigi’s lovely Alex Bickers, I would probably have remained that way for the rest of the ceremony. What are your best and worst experiences of hair shows or awards ceromonies? Why not share them with me and the hairdressing community?
