Creating a winning image for the British Hairdressing Awards relies on a solid team - we speak to the stars behind Alexander Turnbull's winning collection.

Hairdresser

"My inspiration came from the world's most majestic and most feared female - the lioness. The whole shot worked well because of its visual impact and strong theme; haunting, moody, slightly spooky and very sexy. I wanted to capture the huntress's ability to seduce people with her captivating beauty, which is also unnerving."

HJ's 2010 North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year Alex Turnbull, Alexander Hair and Beauty, Anlaby, Hull

Stylist

"Alex has created a real lioness - a wild, untamable woman. For me, the clothes are a supporting act to the hair, so I kept the palette simple and focused on the texture of the materials to express the feminine, sensual strength of the story. The model unites all these elements for an image that I find wonderfully empowering."

Alice Wilby

Make-up

"The make-up was inspired by the clothes, but also the environment of the location. The peeling walls had an amazing tonal palette of cream, gold, yellow, green and mushroom and, despite the crumbling decay, it still had an air of sophistication and elegance, which I think was portrayed throughout Alex's collection. The model is polished, beautiful and looks expensive, yet she still has a freedom and looseness."

Victoria Baron

Photographer

"Alex wanted to capture an 'alive and wild' mood. The sensuality and rawness of the photo are a combination of the beautiful model and the hair's texture. As soon as we added a light touch of wind, the mood came alive. It's part sea creature, part lion's mane and was captured and tamed in no less than 30 frames. As a hair shot it's quite magical, but I think it's the emotional strength that keeps bringing your gaze back again and again."
