Savills barbers, sheffield: interiors inspiration

Stepping into Savills Barbers in Sheffield is like taking a step back in time to a barbershop in 1920s Chicago; dark wood, a whiskey bar, cigars and even an in-house tailoring service all bring to life the golden age of men's grooming, with all the creature comforts of the 21st century. Owner Joth Davies had been plotting the opening for almost 15 years, so it's no wonder that the final realisation of his barbershop dream is so immaculate. "I was inspired by 1920s American barbershops and movies like the Godfather and the Untouchables," he explains. "I wanted to recreate the style, feel and service experience of that period. From the interior design, materials and lighting to the tools and even the barber uniforms, every detail has been painstakingly researched and sourced to truly authenticate this theme throughout." As a result, Savills Barbers oozes vintage Americana. Every consideration has been paid to the barbershop theme, with perks for clients including a whiskey bar, Cuban cigars for sale and even a genuine Savile Row tailor, who visits once a month to fit clients with bespoke suits - branded with the Savills Barbers label. In terms of decor, the former retail unit is almost entirely clad in wood to create a sepia-toned, authentic vintage feel. The parquet floor is crafted from reclaimed timber, as were the mirror frames on each styling station. The cabinets were from the science department of an old school and most of the fittings, pictures and wall décor were also sourced from antique stores and salvage yards. Washbasins sit on the wooden bench-style tops and the customised Takara Belmont Apollo 2 barber chairs are spun round for a traditional backwash shampoo at the station. Classic cut-throat razors, brushes and tools all hark back to days gone by, while satisfying the very real demand for these traditional services today.
