Red carpet hairstyles: sag awards 2011

Red carpet hairstyles: sag awards 2011 Another weekend, another award ceremony - well, it is that time of year again. The latest celeb-stuffed event was the SAGs, which attracted a huge line-up of A-list actresses, all primped and preened to perfection.

Christina Hendricks and January Jones did a sterling job of proving that Mad Men is not only the most stylish show on TV, but also that it has the most stylish actresses working on it. Christina opted for glossy, defined curls - much better than her Golden Globes look.

January gave a nod to Betty Draper with this retro sculpted updo, although the slicked back sides give it a more modern, slightly androgynous feel.

Glee is a close runner-up for most stylish TV show, with both Dianna Agron and Lea Michele looking lovely on the red carpet. Two very different looks, but I like them both.

Dianna stuck to her usual simple clic with a low, knotted bun to one side. I love the shape and styling of her fringe, which really shows off the blend of blonde tones running through.

Rocking more beachy texture, Lea looked a million miles from her prissy character Rachel. Loose waves and a slightly bedhead finish give her dazzling Oscar de la Renta gown a cool update. Love the effortless look - the perfect accompaniment to the reported $1million of Tiffany diamonds which she was wearing!

Newly-single Eva Longoria has been hitting the red carpet a lot lately, but this isn't my favourite look of the season for her. I'd have rather seen something softer with her daring dress, not the same slightly bouffant updo we always see on her!

Amy Adams kept thing simple and chic with a swept-back ponytail. I love seeing stars try something different on the red carpet, and in theory this should work with Amy's white bandage dress, but something is just a bit off for me - it feels a bit too slick.

Black Swan's leading ladies both looked suitably glam, although I don't love Natalie Portman's slick style as much as some of her other recent looks. Mila Kunis looks fabulous in McQueen, and her colour is just perfect - those lighter pieces around the face add a bit of interest, and offer a more subtle take on the lightened ends we've seen so much of lately.

Hilary-Swank-Nicole-Kidman-SAG-hair.jpg
This is a surprisingly girly look for Hilary Swank, who tends to be a bit more fashion-y and edgy. Fluffy curls complement her draped Versace gown, while her lightened lengths (yep, more of them!) work well with the blush tone.

Nicole Kidman's updo didn't do anything for me - the loose, messier style is a departure from her usually impeccably groomed styles, but those piecey bits around the front just feel wrong.

Glee star Heather Morris showed off the beautiful blonde tones in her hait with a straight, one-length style. I love how this look really makes the most of the colour, but it feels very dated in terms of styling - very Sweet Valley High!

I love Winona Ryder, but this look is a disaster, and so not her. The super curly ponytail doesn't feel right for the red carpet, and combined with her wedding dress - yes, she was wearing a wedding dress - feels like a bad prom look.

Finally, there's not much to be said about Helena Bonham Carter - I actually quite like this look on her, but the fringe is awful. Too thin and too rounded for my liking.

I'm really excited for Boardwalk Empire to start, and have often admired leading lady Paz de la Huerta's quirky style. Unfortunately this red carpet look isn't representative of her usual style - the two tone colour looks home-done, and the weird clipped-off section looks plain odd.
