Red carpet hair: the golden globes 2010
The gorgeous and glamorous were out in force at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.
The biggest winners of the night were Sandra Bullock for best actress in The Blind Side and Jeff Bridges was names as best actor for his role in Crazy Heart.
British Hairdresser of the Year nominees Gary Hooker and Michael Young, Hooker & Young, look at the hot looks from the night and give us their expert opinions.
Sandra Bullock - Winner - Best Actress in a Motion Picture
On a night of mostly relaxed styles, Sandra brought a much-needed hint of Hollywood glamour back to the Golden Globes. Keeping it soft, Sandra's side chignon is easily created but gives maximum impact.
The loose tendrils give a sophisticated, feel, and keeping accessories to a minimum draws attention to her hair. The delicate placement of caramel tones around the hairline works to highlight her cheekbones.
Julia Roberts - Nominee - Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical
This is a very fresh and youthful look for Julia, who has a hint of Sienna Miller about her in this shot.
Staying with the soft, graceful feel of the moment, Julia works this Grecian style beautifully. She adds impact with more defined, structured curls letting people know she is still Hollywood royalty.
The warm golden champagne blondes compliment her skin perfectly but we wouldn't expect anything less from Ms Roberts.
Helen Mirren - Nominee - Best Actress in a Motion Picture
Helen just gets more stylish and alluring with age. She looks radiant here and works this style well. Pinning the hair off her shape shows off her great bone structure, while the sweeping fringe gives a softer outline to the hair.
There was a trend for no necklaces at the Golden Globes, keeping accessories to a minimum and make-up very subtle, and here Helen shows that less is definitely more.
Emily Blunt - Nominee - Best Actress in a Motion Picture
This picture does Emily a lot of favours. Her hair on the evening was very weak, and the rain didn't help.
Here it looks in good condition but on the evening it was straggly and limp. The award for taking the natural look too far goes to Emily Blunt.
Drew Barrymore
Following the press Drew got after last years unforgettable blow dry it is no wonder she opted to play it safe in 2010.
We don't blame her for going sensible and sophisticated, but we feel this is too restricting for the fun-loving California girl. She does look beautiful, and the gown was striking but the hair is a little too non-descript.
It would have been good to her with soft waves and more definition in her colour to stop her looking so pale.
January Jones - Winner (from the cast of Mad Men) - Best Television Series
January looked great on the evening and it worked effortlessly with her gown. The 20s inspired hair-up bucked the trend of the evening, but with the red lips made the right statement.
January challenged the red carpet tradition by covering herself up with a black velvet dress, and with the classic hair-up she made a dramatic entrance.
Heidi Klum
Heidi always looks great but it was lovely to see her looking a little less done.
She often falls into the over-styled category but these natural waves, and the sun kissed colour gives her a softer, more feminine appeal.
The spontaneous parting is dominant in spring/summer looks and the subtle tones add interest to her style. This is another key look for summer colour - it looks effortless, but is technically accurate.
Carey Mulligan - Nominee - Best Actress in a Motion Picture
Carey's Audrey Hepburn crop looked perfect on the evening and the delicate placement of the headband creates more interest to a simple but beautiful outfit.
The warm tones of cappuccino and mahogany lift the navy blue dress to work in harmony with Carey's skin tone and eye colour. The subdued make-up keeps the focus on her classic crop, which accentuates her elfin features.
Meryl Streep - Winner - Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical
Meryl had a beautiful glow about her at the Golden Globes and looked fresh and healthy. The loosely pinned hair up is a classic style but with the soft, unstructured finish it was brought up-to-date.
The hair above the temple area creates an illusion of width that balances Meryl's longer face. She also has very fine hair, but with the right products and strategically placed backcombing it looks full of body and volume.
