Red Carpet Hair: GQ Men of the Year Awards 2009

Held at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, the GQ Men of the Year Awards brought out the chic and stylish from the worlds of TV, music and film.

The event was graced with an array of posh frocks and glossy locks, so we asked the experts to tell us about the good, the bad and the lovely red carpet hair on the night.

“Lily’s extensions are a little too long and disconnected but her smouldering brunette shade suits her perfectly. The dark contrast against her pale skin coupled with her black dress is on-trend for the gothic looks of the season. I would have created a ‘Chanel vibe’ sleek, short classic style, which would have really made a statement and complimented her clothing.”

    Alan Ross, Webster Whiteman

“As always Kelly’s hair looks beautiful. Her shiny 40s style has a modern twist and her soft colour with flattering highlights enhances her natural beauty. The length complements her dress’ neckline and she carries of the feminine glamour look effortlessly.”

    Claire Sanday, Webster Whiteman

“Katherine Jenkins style is classic, on-trend and suits her perfectly. The Bardot-esque updo compliments her off-the-shoulder dress giving her a softer appearance whilst still oozing glamour. The hair colour is great for her skin tone and emphasises the look. This ‘do is definitely a red carpet winner!”

“Kelly’s look doesn’t flatter her face shape; I think she is stunning when she has longer lengths and a brunette shade. The gelled rocker style does flatter her dress and is great with the high collar but just isn’t right for her. The look itself is right on-trend and perfect for the awards, it would look fantastic on someone like Erin O’Connor.”

“Liz looks great with her softly tousled waves but  it’s not much different to how she wears her hair walking around in Chelsea. I’d like to see Liz-just once-rock a dishevelled up do, the texture would give Liz more of an edgier look. Although her hair style is a red carpet winner and totally suits her dress sense, I look forward to not seeing another blow dry with long gown and plunging neck line combo.”

    Jaime Winstone

“I love the ‘raw’ blonde looks great on her and she wears it well – the bob though – mmmm….  not for me – the line is not the most flattering for her face shape. I’d prefer to see it be a tad shorter and with softer layers around the face – she has a prominent forehead and a soft fringe would look really sexy.”
