Oscars 2015: best-tressed guests 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Press Room, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 The Oscars 2015 red carpet was one of the best-dressed yet - but what about the best-tressed guests? Here, we take a look at whose hair was a hit and whose was a miss on the night. We also speak to celeb stylist Jamie Stevens, to find out whose hair he rated. Julianne Moore We say: Best Actress Julianne Moore kept things sleek and elegant with a side-parted chignon worn to one side. Proof that you don't need bells and whistles when you've got a stunning colour and glossy, gorgeous hair; elegance and simplicity personified. Jamie Says: "Julianne Moore showed off a timeless classic deep side parting, sleek and smoothed back into a low a low bun. This is the ultimate Oscars hairstyle." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Sienna Miller We say: Sienna works the wet-look trend from the catwalk into this sleek style, which shows just how good the trend can look in the real world. Worn in twists back from either side of the head and gathered in a knot at the back, this is high-fashion does red-carpet. 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Anna Kendrick We say: Part of the all-singing, all-dancing opening number, Anna Kendrick opted for a romantic, slightly wind-swept look which complemented the romance of her pink gown perfectly. Jamie says: "Anna Kendrick showed off a perfect effortless updo. We love this. All about that undone feel, not looking too polished and glam. Very simple to recreate and proof that less can definitely mean more." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Dakota Johnson We say: Dakota's soft fringe was paired with a low ponytail for an understated look, that put her stunning Saint Laurent gown firmly in the picture. Would something slightly rockier and sexier made more of an impact? Jamie says: "For her Oscars debut, Dakota Johnson got it just right in my opinion with the contrast between her naturally tousled pony and her ball gown. Her soft textured fringe skimmed her eyes with effortlessly cool longer pieces falling out either side. The top of her hair was teased to give it volume and height with the pony was textured keeping the look modern, yet adding sophistication as the pony was placed in the middle of her head instead of too high or low." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Margot Robbie We say: Margot Robbie dialled up the vamp factor with this sleek, side-parted long bob. The piecey texture and slight bend through the ends bring the sultry finish that we would have loved to have seen on Dakota Johnson. Jamie says: "Margot showcased her new locks on Sunday, swapping her long tresses for a collarbone-skimming long bob. Opting for simplicity, Margot's hair was lightly tousled with a very deep side parting and the right side of her hair tucked neatly behind her ear. This was one of our favourite hair looks from this year's Oscars." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Marion Cotillard We say: French actress Marion always brings her A-game on the red carpet, with edgy looks that divide - but at least get talked about. On this occasion, her look was an undeniably elegant retro-inspired twist worn away from the face. Jamie says: "Marion Cotillard wore a modern take on the 1940s victory roll. It's retro inspired but brought into the 21st century thanks to the deep centre parting and the roll twisted back off the face into an elegant shape at the back. Again very simple to create and the perfect style to go from work to party in minutes." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Press Room, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Naomi Watts We say: Naomi usually opts for all-out retro curls or something sleek, so this wavy matte-texutred long bob makes for a refreshing change. We just love this trend for high-end gowns with downtown-feeling hair. Jamie says: Naomi is bang on trend with her wob - wavy bob. The length of the hair, cut shorter at the back and slightly dropping down at the front, emphasises the softness and femininity of the cut and really complements her jawline and collarbone. The key tool to achieve this look is a wand. Taking big vertical sections, wrap around the hair and leave the ends of the hair out so they remain slightly straight." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Press Room, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Patricia Arquette We say: Best Supporting Actress Patricia Arquette rocked it with this slightly windswept updo. The face-framing halo of wispy hairs just adds to Patricia's quirky, down-to-earth personality and we wouldn't change a thing. Jamie says: We love Patricia's look. This is all about a dishevelled and undone feel but I feel that the look is slightly too hard on her. I would have liked to see a few pieces pulled down softening her face and jawline." 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Rita Ora We say: Doing the Brits proud, performer Rita kept things understated on this occasion with her sleek blonde crop worn in a chic side parting. Simple and elegant and a perfect partner to that dazzling gown. 87th Academy Awards, Oscars, Arrivals, Los Angeles, America - 22 Feb 2015 Scarlett Johansson We say: On a night that was all about elegance and understated looks, Scarlett made an impact with her edgy undercut and slicked-back blonde crop. What a perfect complement to that amazing ear cuff! Jamie says: "We love this rock chick look that Scarlett is going for at the moment. With her tightly-shaven back and sides taking centre stage, the look is kept sexy and feminine with the top of her hair swept back, keeping a small amount of height at the front."
