Matrix january conference The 2008 Capital of Culture, Liverpool, was the venue for Matrix's January conference. More than 200 guests attended, including Matrix distributors and hairdressers, who were all keen to find out the latest plans from the brand.

adrianthelwellweb.jpgThe evening began with a speech from Matrix general manager UK and Republic of Ireland Adrian Thelwell, who spoke about the hair industry during the economic crisis. "Although the frequency of salon visits per customer has gone down, the average spend per service has actually doubled in the past 10 years," he said.

Looking at research into public spending, Adrian gave some insight into why the industry hasn't been as badly affected as others. "The public value the 'feel-good factor' that hairdressers offer, and are cutting back on other areas of spending," he said.

louisemanningweb.jpgThere was a buzz in the air after hearing Adrian's positive speech and marketing manager, Matrix UK and Republic of Ireland, Darragh O'Connor took to the stage to talk about upcoming events. "Matrix offers the best value to the hairdresser, not just with price but through local education and events such as Destination Fame," he said.

Louise Manning, commercial manager, gave useful tips to salon owners worried about the economic situation. "By offering gift vouchers, loyalty cards and birthday cards, salons can tempt clients into the salon and stop existing clients from straying," she said.

Styles ranged from the hippy chic of Acacia Honey, which featured gorgeous loose curls with a tousled twist at the front, to the unadulterated glamour of Chestnut Honey, which revealed an edgy multi-textured updo.
