Ladies' night at the brits

rexfeatures_1117755dn.jpgThe Brits is my favourite awards show, but it was definitely the girls who dazzled with their looks last night, more than the boys. From the firy mane of Florence Welch to the avant-garde lunacy of Lady Ga Ga, it was the women who wooed me with their dazzling dos.

I keep reading about an 80s revival, but there wasn't much evidence of it amongst the male rexfeatures_1117700ao.jpgmusic stars out last night. Sure there's a big return to electro pop, but where is the anything goes attitude that went with it in the 80s? OK, there were some disasters back then - my attempt to mimic the lead singer from A Flock of Seagulls is one I'd rather forget -  but isn't it better to look back and think "Oh my God how could I have gone out looking like that?" rather than never experimenting - we learn from our mistakes, after all!

rexfeatures_1117702bo.jpgMaybe I'm seeing the 80s through rose-tinted glasses, but I do wonder what will define the noughties and the next decade in terms of hairstyles, particularly men's. Hairdressers are willing to experiment - and judging by some of the collections I've seen lately, they definitely are - but we need some male music icons willing to be more extreme, people willing to look ridiculous, but whose daring looks will filter down into edgy commercial styles.
