Hairdressing icons: angelo seminara

The man behind some of the most awe-inspiring images in hairdressing, Angelo Seminara began his career as a trainee barber in his home village in Italy. Five years later, Angelo moved to Rome to take up a job with Toni & Guy but he already had his sights set on London - and one man in particular. "Trevor Sorbie's constant innovation was fascinating to me," says Angelo. "I found his work so beautiful." After making contact with the man who was to be his mentor, Angelo moved to the UK to work in Trevor's London salon and the rest is history.
After 16 years at Trevor Sorbie, including the role of international creative director and countless accolades including HJ's British Hairdresser of the Year on two occasions, Angelo is now artistic director of Davines and continues to work for international magazines and catwalk shows combining his unique brand of creativity with couture fashion for breathtaking results.
An artist in the truest sense of the word, Angelo views hair as a fabric to be fashioned into new shapes and textures - ranging from his now famous Sushi collection to his Game series, which saw strands of hair coloured intricately to recreate the patterns in feathers.
Constantly pushing the traditional limitations of hair and bringing to life creations that are consistantly innovative, it's easy to see why Angelo is viewed as a creative genius both by those in the industry and outsiders.
