Golden globes 2015: best tressed

The first red-carpet event of this year's award season kicked off last night, as the great and good of Hollywood hit the red carpet for the Golden Globes 2015. Here we take a look at some of the best hairstyles from the night. Allison Williams We say: From Peter Pan to red-carpet princess, Allison looks impossibly elegant with this side-parted style. From the vinyl-shine finish to the pristine finish on the waves, this look is pure old Hollywood glamour. Amy Adams We say: Side-partings were order of the day on the red carpet, with Amy also opting for a retro-inspired asymmetric style. Unlike Allison, Amy opted for a softer finish in terms of product; the perfect match to her romantic pale blue gown. They say: "I was delighted to see a return to old school Hollywood glamour, with 1940s style hair taking centre stage. The look is simple and classic, looking stylish, but not too try hard or taking from their gorgeous gowns. Plus, tucking the hair behind the ear allows those lucky celebs to show off their huge earrings! Shine is essential for this look, so Alison Williams and Amy Adams were personal favorites, letting their glossy colours compliment to hair perfectly." Anne Veck Cindy Crawford We say: Serving pure supermodel realness, Cindy also opted for a left-of-centre parting. Hair is kept soft, loose and touchable with a blow-dry that shows off her colour just perfectly. They say: "Side-swept waves are a classic red carpet trend that never goes out of fashion, however I would have liked to have seen some of the stars do something a bit edgier. Cindy Crawford worked a modern take on the old Hollywood classic; her look is slightly more undone giving it a modern edge." Suzie McGill Heidi Klum We say: Supermodel Heidi brings the va-va-voom with both her show-stopping red Versace gown and that side-swept cascade of Hollywood curls. Jessica Chastain We say: Old Hollywood waves were definitely having a moment on the red carpet, perhaps nowhere better presented than on Jessica Chastain, who resembled a modern-day Rita Hayworth. They say: "No red carpet event would be the same without vintage waves; Jessica Chastain surely wins this year. Her hair colour was the perfect shade of peachy red all over with immense shine, which gave her the healthy glow all celebs covet. The wave was styled over one shoulder with a classic Hollywood deep side parting." Dafydd Rhys Dakota Johnson We say: The 50 Shades actress looked suitably sultry with tousled bed-head hair. The choppy, slightly 70s-shaped fringe is the perfect complement to that touchable texture. They say: "Dakota Fanning is definitely one to watch during the red carpet season. Undone glamour is a huge look this season. I love her tousled and loose waves. I think it's really cool, one of my favourite looks of the night." Suzie McGill Emma Stone We say: Emma Stone can do no wrong, both with that must-have copper shade and her equally get-me-to-the-salon worthy choppy long bob. They say: "I love the colour and the cut Emma has gone for, it works together perfectly to create an on trend beachy version of the lob (long bob)." Jack Howard Diane Kruger We say: One of our red-carpet favourites, Diana always brings something interesting to the red carpet both in terms of styling and hair and beauty choice. This wet-look take on a vintage-inspired shape is a suitable modern update. They say: "To complement the ethereal, iridescent fabric of Diane’s dress and gorgeous earrings, I wanted to create a modern version of retro waves. With no-fuss styling and hair effortlessly pushed back behind one ear, this look couldn't be a more perfect contrast to her pretty Miu Miu gown. They say: "The lob haircut shows no signs of waning and Sienna definitely pulls it off, the all over blonde with lighter pieces sliced through looks incredible." Jack Howard Emily Blunt We say: A bohemian, softly braided look adds romance to Emily's otherwise sexy criss-cross,, cut-out white gown. Opting for just two tiny plaits pulled away from the face, this is an undeniably pretty style. They say: "Beautiful, intricate braids from Emily, perfect for her Grecian-inspired dress and sophisticated enough for red carpet. I particularly like the looseness of the plaits, which is a great way to deliver glamour and avoid a Heidi finish more appropriate for festivals." Errol Douglas Joanne Froggatt We say: The Downton star has well and truly switched Downstairs for Upstairs with this ritzy red-carpet look. The braided headband with wispy face-framing panels is a gorgeous match to her romantic, beaded gown. They say: "Joanna Froggatt’s braided updo works really well with her outfit; it keeps it young and fresh. A drastic change from her Downton Abbey look." Suzie McGill Julia Louis-Dreyfus We say: Proving that it's not all in about big, bouncy blow-dries and voluminous curls, Julia makes a statement with sleek, straightforward, styling. Allowing her glossy raven colour to speak for itself, this look is pure elegance. They say: "Julia Louis Dreyfus went brave with a sharp centre parting and straight locks. I'm secretly happy to see this look on the red carpet because, lets face it, we can all easily make this work for our clients. A great look on her." Anne Veck Katie Holmes We say: It's been a while since we've seen Katie looking so directional on the red carpet. While this ponytail piece may be a little overlong, it's great to see her rocking something fashion-forward, fun and fresh. Thumbs up! They say: "Katie Holmes went for the deep side parting, with a low ponytail, in a look I can only describe as 'I’m doing the school run'. With a team of stylists at her beck and call, I would have liked to see her do so much more!" Anne Veck Keira Knightley We say: Keira's pretty bohemian style deserves a 360-examination. Twisted and plaited away from the face, hair is then knotted in a bun at the nape and finished with a shimmering silver feather accessory. They say: "Keira Knightly rocked the messy bun with slight twists at the front complemented with a white feather. I like the front, but feel the back is a bit too messy, even if there was an accessory involved." Anne Veck Lana Del Rey We say: Bringing a slice of pure 1960s glamour to the proceedings, Lana's look is equal parts Ronettes and Priscilla Presley. They say: "The queen of retro glamour hit lost some of her vintage appeal with a 70’s inspired concertina dress and huge beehive. Sometimes less really is more." Ken Picton Jennifer Lopez We say: You always rely on JLO to bring it with the sex appeal. This Barbarella look is nothing short of stupendous from head-to-toe, but that massive mane of 60s-inspired waves is the icing on the (already very glitzy) cake. They say: "Both Jennifer Lopez and Lana Del Ray opted for a voluminous look – Lana has stayed true to herself but I prefer the look on Jennifer, it looks much more glamorous and polished. Gently backcombing the roots to achieve plenty of volume while keeping the look groomed and glossy is key/ Jennifer's hair just oozes shine!" Suzie McGill, Rainbow Room International Artistic Director Lena Dunham We say: We love Lena's bob - even more so now that it's back to brunette from that statement peroxide. This simple, side-parted look is one of her best looks yet. They say: "Lena Dunham failed to wow with her try-hard mix of graphic bob and graphic Zac Posen gown. The harsh lines create a jarring overall image; I think if she had softened her hair with a gentle wave she could have been on to a winning look." Ken Picton Louise Roe We say: Brit girl Louise brings a splash of London style to the red-carpet with this cool textured braid. Styled in a fishtail plait and wrapped around the head in a Heidi-braid style, this looks puts a firm English stamp on Louise's style. They say: "Television presenter Louise Roe looked effortlessly chic with her loose and messy Heidi plaits. The Balayage through the ends created a beautiful, but subtle juxtaposition." Anne Veck Lupita Nyong'o We say: The actress has grown out her hair slightly and couldn't look better. The longer 'fro, brushed out for volume, just elevates our style crush on Lupita to new levels. They say: "Now that's how you rock a 2015 awards season kick off natural! I love this longer 'fro from Lupita, combed out and up for enough drama in the height and a great shape achieved post-comb with placement and gentle patting. Another style that is wholly dependent on the condition so invest in a regular treatment mask routine" Errol Douglas Salma Hayek We say: Salma always looks sizzling with that bountiful mane, blow-dried to perfection in this instance into big bouncy curls. The floral clip could be a touch too much - but then, what is award season for if not a bit of razzle dazzle? They say: "Salma Hayak looked every bit the bombshell with her big bouncy blow-dry.
