Fashionistas out in force for british fashion awards

The country's most sylish stars were out in force last night, as the 2010 British Fashion Awards paid tribute to the most respected names in the industry.

And although the guests displayed a fantastic array of haute couture dresses, there was also some great hair on display.

Hair hero Alexa Chung revealed a new shorter cut, still complete with her now-trademark balayage ends. I love this shorter length on Alexa, and as usual her effortless styling contrasts nicely against a prim outfit - this time, courtesy of Chanel.

Model Daisy Lowe also opted for an undone updo, with a loose, textured chignon, complete with face-framing tendrils softening her style. The slightly grungy look works perfectly with her gothic Elie Saab black lace gown.

Proving that fashion isn't just for stick thin models and snooty designers, Kelly Brook and Kimberley Walsh also attended the British Fashion Awards, and both opted for vintage-style dresses and big, bouncy blow-dries.

Kelly's hair looks slightly shorter than usual, and her usual glossy brunette shade is broken up with some shine-boosting chestnut panels. A corseted gown with thigh-high split completed her vintage vamp look.

I absolutely love Kimberley's shiny ringlets, which paired with her auburn colour create a real Jessica Rabbit feel. Worn with a quirky olive corseted dress, Kim really embodies the quirky Brit fashion icon look.

Victoria Beckham was nominated for designer of the year, and although she didn't win, she shouldn't feel too bad - she lost out to Mulberry, and was nominated alongside Burberry and Pringle! Dressed, as ever, in one of her own designs, I wasn't wowed by VB's discrete bun.

At the other end of the hair-o-meter, I loved fashion guru Daphne Guinness's beehive. Complete with her trademark black stripes and completed with a thick black band, Daphne was wrapped up like a Christmas present in her silver dress and diamonds.

The British fashion Awards 2010 were hosted by Claudia Winkleman, who was resplendent in her usual deep fake tan and frosted pink lipstick. Her hair is slightly shorter than usual, and I love the blunt, one-length finish all the way around, which works perfectly with her blunt fringe.

Supermodel Erin O'Connor was also rocking her usual elfin crop, complete with sweeping fringe and slicked-back sides. The gamine look contrasted with her full 50s dress, for a stand-out look.

Blonde beauties Claudia Schiffer and Lara Stone looked spookily similar last night, both in white dresses, and both sporting serious smoky eyes and red lips.

While Claudia stuck to her usual tousled Bardot-esque lengths, Lara opted for a low-slung bun. Although Lara looks great, I think Claudia wins this battle of the Nordic blondes!

Naomi Campbell walked away with a special honour last night, marking her 25 years in modelling. It's hard to believe that the Streatham-born supermodel has been working for a quarter of a century - she looks fabulous, and proves that women in their 40s can definitely carry off long hair. This sleek, blunt style works fabulously with her gothic Alexander McQueen gown.

Finally, we're still getting to used Lily Cole's jet black locks. The new look wasn't a hit with our Facebook fans, and I really don't like her wispy fringe either. With her porcelain complexion and lacklustre outfit, this is a real thumbs down from me.
