Dj ambrose get creative with business Darren and Jackie Ambrose of D&J Ambrose at Business Extra Seminar at Salon International 2013 Do you think that for a business to be successful it can't be creative? Darren and Jackie Ambrose demonstrated to the Business Extra audience that simply isn't true. The pair, who sold their house and lived in a caravan to start their DJ Ambrose 17 years ago, admitted that the driving force behind what they do is the creative side of hairdressing. They are multiple winners at the British Hairdressing Awards and have an extensive portfolio of editorial credits and believe that satisfying their own need for creativity and nurturing a creative environment in the salon have been central to their growth. Darren and Jackie Ambrose of D&J Ambrose at Business Extra Seminar at Salon International 2013"Bums on seats are essential to the business, but the creative side gives you another level that can separate you from your competition," explains Darren. But while creativity is what motivates Darren and Jackie, they realise that isn't what excites every member of the team, so the important thing is to find what gets the best out of every individual. "Sometimes people don't have natural self motivation and it can be hard to understand if they don't," explains Darren. "You need to take them aside and find out what motivates them. It could be money, it could be doing a show, it could be giving them an editorial shoot. But you need to be confident in yourself. Giving them what they want is not losing control, it's gaining it."
