Name: Jack Howard

Salon: Head colourist and balayage expert for Rossano Ferretti, London and guest artist for L'OrĂ©al Professionnel.

Training and qualifications: I trained under an apprenticeship program in all aspects of hairdressing and am a State-registered hairdresser.

When did you decide to specialise in colour?
About 20 years ago, after ten years in the industry, I decided to drop the cutting and focus just on the colour - it just seemed like a natural progression for me.

Why do you love working with colour?
I love it because working with colour is like being a painter. Each client is like a fresh canvass that i have the privilege to work on.

Whose colour work do you admire the most?
I have admired many colourists work over the decades and been influenced by  some very inspiring people  - and I hope that continues to happen

Where do you find your inspiration?
For me it's available everywhere in this wonderful city called London! From galleries and buildings to what we see in nature and what's going on in the street.

What colours do you predict we'll be seeing a lot of this Spring/Summer?
I hope that we will continue to see a return to more natural-looking hair colours with the emphasis on beautiful, healthy-looking hair colour as we saw in many of the runway shows.

What techniques are you using a lot of at the moment?
Most of my work involves some freehand hair colouring technique. Balayage is what I'm know for and that and ombre are really starting to take off in this country as lifelong techniques rather than just trends.

Which colour trend do you wish had never taken off?
I'm sure I'm going to be hated for this, but I can't stand My Little Pony coloured hair - it drives me crazy! Apologies to all those that love it.

Which celebrity do you think always gets colour right?
SJP, Jennifer Lopez , Alexa Chung and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
