As HJi celebrates the very best in colour, we talk to some of our current colour crushes to find out more about their life, work and loves.

Today we talk to Chris Williams, international colour director for RUSH Hair. As a member of the multi award-winning salon group's artistic team, Chris is responsible for creating the stunning colour in the group's collections, as well as working on shoots, shows and seminars across the globe.

We asked Chris about his colour loves, hates and the celebrity colour trend which he wishes had never happened...

Name: Chris Williams

Salon: International colour director, RUSH Hair

Training and qualifications: NVQ, Wella Master Colour Award, Goldwell Colour Expert, L'Oreal Colour Master

When did you decide to specialise in colour?
It wasn't actually by choice. I applied for a job with a salon group which had recently started franchising - they were struggling to find recruits for their Chichester salon so I was fast-tracked through the program to become a colourist.

Why do you love working with colour?
It's messy but there is a logical process behind it that I like. You can theorize about colour but never really guarantee the outcome. I like the design process of colour. It's both structured and chaotic, a bit like myself.

Whose colour work do you admire the most?
Angelo Seminara always does something different with colour. He isn't someone you view as a colourist but it plays a significant part in his work, often more than the cut.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration can be found all around, in everything. The smaller details in life interest me, you just need to take the time to see it.

What colours do you predict we'll be seeing a lot of this Spring/Summer?
In salons there is a kind of guilt-free colour where multi-tonal highlights are positioned underneath the parting for subtleness. This is not about blondes but caramels and soft mocha tones; a combination of three colour with very little difference between the tones for minimum re-growth.

What techniques are you using a lot of at the moment?
Dip-dyes are finally moving on so we are seeing more highlighting techniques being used again, not to completely cover the ends but to give a softer, more tonal feel to the hair.

Which colour trend do you wish had never taken off?
There was a period of time when celebrities thought it was cool to match their hair colour with their skintone. Not a good look.

Which celebrity do you think always gets colour right?
Jennifer Aniston plays it safe but is always bang on with her colour. People like Kelly Osbourne and Kate Moss, who might not always technically get it right, often start the trends by doing something different or experimental.
