Adee Phelan is known for his distinctive personal style, so it comes as no surprise to discover his new Birmingham salon is one of a kind. "I wanted to create a salon like no other," says Adee. "I told the designer, Ryan McElhinney, I wanted to create a salon interior that was unexpected. When you walk into my salon it is like entering the lobby of an amazing hotel or apartment."
The premises were a new-build, offering Adee and Ryan a blank canvas, which was transformed into Adee's dream salon in just 11 weeks. "The salon is anything but corporate," says Adee. "It looks more like a cool gallery. Ryan didn't use any of the standard styling station designs, instead he opted for converted mahogany doors, a baby grand piano and custom-made artists' easels."
And, just to ensure no-one could accuse Adee of opting for the obvious, the salon also features a 9ft yellow statue of King Kong. "It's a talking point," states Adee.
