2012 mtv video music awards: straight styles for kesha and taylor swift

This season's trend for super-straight lengths seems to have influenced celebrities on the red carpet at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, with Kesha and Taylor Swift opting for sleek looks.
Kehsa wore long blonde locks in a side parted style - with her usual undercut apparently now grown out - with smooth, straight lengths. Adding interest to the style, the singer gave one face-framing panel a twist, with a soft wave snaking across her face.
The perfect combination of catwalk-inspired and classic red carpet styling, this look is a great option for Kesha.
We're used to seeing Taylor with tight ringlets, but the pop princess has ditched the romantic look recently for a sleeker, more grown-up style.
As well as replacing her wardrobe of sparkly fairy princess ballgowns for more mature choices - such as this J Mendel white trouser suit - Taylor has been wearing her long blonde locks straight recently.
Along with the dramatic eyes and statement lips, this look is much more fashion than we're used to seeing from Taylor - thumbs up, and long may it continue!
