Hi Laura,

You will need to do you PCGE or equivelant, and assessors quals if you do not have them. I guess you have level 3.

Go and knock on the door of your local college and ask to shadow on your day off. This will give you an insight into what goes on and help you decide if you like it.

If you have more than one college go to both, find out what their OFSTED grades are to help you compare them.

Where are you based? do you have lots of colleges around you.

You can apply for jobs that come up at colleges for hairdressing lecturers and also for work based training providers - they will put you through your A1, also you need to start off with doing the preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS course- 2 - 3 months) nearly equvalent to 7304 then enrol on the Diploma to teach in the lifelong learning sector (2 years) which will give you qualified teacher status - you can go onto do a top up to get you to degree level (another 2years). If you are assessing one to one you only need the A1 and Ptlls, if you are teaching a college group you need to commit to doing the Dtlls aswell.

With all these course you need to actually be teaching/assessing as they are dependant on you building evidence and having lesson observations - and don't worry about the price - if you get in with a good college or company they will pay for you (there may be something in your contract about staying there for a certain amount of time after though) and also there is a funding thing you can do through the government.

I'd do a search for work based training providers and send in your CV to them and also look on FE jobs.com for college work. Don't be put off that you haven't taught before as enthusiasm is the key!
