Hi Joseph, complete your course, whilst doing that work as much as you can at a top salon, I believe there is a Sorbie and a Nicky Clarke in Manchester. If they have no jobs work for free. If your parents say thats mad ignore them! Work very hard then work harder. Attend sioree's and anything else. Make sure your enthusiasm is seen- it will be. It takes time, when your course is finished you should have a job! Work hard and be prepared to start at the bottom. As you get better make sure to add 'networking' to your list of studies. Schmooz.. The first ten years are the hardest
Yeah I agree - be enthusiastic and willing to give up your time for free. Enter competitions (like young hairdresser of the year) and get yourself noticed, look on the fellowship for british hairdressing website for information - Project X takes new up and coming hairdressers and gives them extra skills in presenting etc.
Salons like Headmasters have their own art team that you can join - so good to get in with one of the big names.
Offer your services for free to fashion colleges/students for their shows to get experience and don't forget to take photo's of everything you do! Who knows - when the students get famous they might take you with them!
Make sure you read HJ and get inspiration on new looks, start creating mood boards for looks and themes you like, get your friends to model for you and take pics to put in a folder of anything you create, maybe look at doing a couple of courses in more creative hair ups/fashion photography(?!) etc - its all good evidence and stuff to put on your CV.
Good luck!
