An impressive £2,500 was raised by the hair and beauty industries for their own charity on the second annual HABB Day on Friday 2nd May 2008.
HABB President, Eva Proudman was delighted by the success of the fundraising day and is convinced that as time goes on HABB Day will become an even bigger and better date in the diary.
"Unlike the more established national charity days and months, HABB is only in its early stages and is very much promoted by word of mouth and a trade campaign amongst salons and companies familiar with the good work HABB does," she says
"It's an aim of the Fundraising Committee to continue shouting about this day, year on year, and hope that it quickly becomes a regular date in our industry's diary, just like other days/months have become."
HABB received support from a number of companies, each doing their own thing on the day to raise funds and awareness:

HABB Chairman, Phillip Rogers says: "Every penny raised from the day is used to help HABB's beneficiaries, which is essential.
"However, the day is also a way to talk about the charity's work and encourage as many professionals to get behind our own industry's charity - whether it's through supporting HABB Day or attending one of our organised events.
"A huge thanks goes out to all the companies who donated money for HABB Day and already this has increased from last year. We really hope to see more companies support the day next year."
If you'd still like to donate, are interested in helping HABB or have a fundraising initiative call 01372 849 639 or visit www.habb.org.

Celebrity guests including Lesley Joseph, Cleo Rocos and A Place in the Sun's Amanda Lamb, along with a who's who of the hairdressing industry helped to raise over £10,000 for the Hair and Beauty Benevolent at the annual HABB Ball.
The event, the industry's first night of glamour of the year, marked the beginning of Racoon International's Eva Proudman's role as president of hairdressing's own charity.
She began by explaining how she herself had turned to an industry charity in her own hour of need after a car crash meant that her spine had to be fused.
Former president Jayne Lewis-Orr also delivered a reminder of the importance of the charity, by sharing the heart warming tale of Ruby, who lost her hairdresser mother Helen to breast cancer when she was just 11. HABB is paying for a school trip to New York and helping her to enjoy the same experiences as her classmates.
There were Presidents Awards for Jayne, for her work as charity president for the last three years, and Image International and Chambers Hair Design for their fundraising efforts in the past 12 months.
On the evening, huge amounts of much-needed funds were raised through a raffle, with amazing prizes including vouchers to spend in Harley Street, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols; an auction of money-can't-buy merchandise; and a silent auction that featured a Ben De Lisi dress and hairdryers designed by top hairdressers and made by Wahl.
But the biggest draw was a replica FA Cup, as won by Chelsea in 2007, which was bought be Anthony Mascolo for a whopping £2,500.
While raising money and awareness for HABB was the focus of the evening, there was still plenty of fun to be had.
Richard Ward, Marc Antoni, Akin Konizi and hob creative, Tim Hartley, Errol Douglas, Johnny Engstrom Artistic Director of Guy Kremer, Andrew Barton and the Saks Art Team, Effi Davies at Toni & Guy, Seanhanna Artistic Team and Sassoon all wowed the guests with hair shows inspired by the theme 'Fashioning the Olympics'.
And disco diva Kym Mazelle, belted out her anthems 'Young Hearts Run Free' and 'Love Me the Right Way' before the industry's own DJ, Desmond Murray took to the decks for a party.

Following on from the success of the Naked Hairdressers Calendars, comes the new Cutting Edge Cook Book in aid of the Hair & Beauty Benevolent (HABB).
Such is the support for the charity that even the prospect of donning chef’s whites and creating their own recipe for the book wasn’t enough to put some of the industry’s leading hairdressers off supporting a good cause!
"I think we have a duty of care to give something back to our great industry and it’s always a pleasure to support our own charity – even if it does mean cooking rather than cutting!" says Richard Ward, resident hairdresser for LK Today and Susannah and Trinny Undress.
Recipes featured in the book range from the Queen of Colour, Jo Hansford’s delicious ‘Hansford Fishy Pie’, Richard Ward’s ‘Richard’s Supreme Chicken’, Andrew Barton’s ‘Barton’s Borsch’, Errol Douglas ‘Errol’s Mussels’, Phil Smith's ‘Phil’s Cheeky Breast’ and other mouth watering dishes.
Cutting Edge Cooks is available for just £3 plus p+p and all the proceeds from the sales will be donated to HABB thanks to the books sponsor, Goldwell
So you can have your taste buds tantalised with 13 scrummy recipes created by some of the nation's most talented hairdressers; do your bit for a good cause and all for a fraction of the price of your normal cook books!

The industry's own charity the Hair and Beauty Benevolent has re-launched their website and also started a myspace page to appeal to hairdressers and beauty therapists of all ages.
"The internet is a medium that more and more people are looking towards to gain up to the minute information.
"It is essential that HABB as a charity is seen to be targeting potential members and beneficiaries through the internet. You can buy tickets on line, become a member or just find out information about how we work,” explains HABB Chairman Philip Rogers.
The website - www.habb.org - is easily navigated and explores areas including:
With visuals from both the hair and beauty industry, the site has a strong visual appeal and keeps the information succinct and easy to digest.
HABB has also created a website button so companies who’d like to support HABB can include the button on their own website. To request yours, call them directly on 01372 849 639.
HABB is also keeping up with the social network explosion and has created its own myspace page. Their page lists forthcoming events and messages to appeal to the younger audience.

The Sensuality Ball 07
If you couldn’t support yourself or your children through no fault of your own – where would you turn?
If an accident prevented you from working again, who would look after you?
If a debilitating illness meant that you – or a loved one – needed assistance would anyone be prepared to help you?
If you ask the Hair & Beauty Benevolent, the answer to all of these is yes – but we need your support.
Teams appearing include Lisa Shepherd, Errol Douglas, HOB Salons, Richard Ward, Vidal Sassoon, Hooker & Young, Mahogany, Andrew Barton and the Saks Art Team.

I have just come back from a Hair & Beauty Benevolent meeting, and it never ceases to amaze me how much time and effort some people are prepared to put in to helping those in need. That said, there are plenty more out there who could help - just a little bit - to ensure that HABB can help those who need it the most.
How about coming to the HABB Ball at the London Hilton Hotel on Monday, 5th February? You can mingle with celebrities and your hairdressing idols - all whilst raising money for a great cause. Please call 01372 849639 to book your tickets and find out how you can help.
