Gok Wan gets a makeover from Jamie Stevens

Jamie Stevens, art director at Errol Douglas, London recently gave Britain's favourite makeover guru a makeover all of his own.

Gok Wan came into the Errol Douglas salon for a complete re-style and is now sporting a short-sided, longer on top look fit for a fashionista.

"Gok saw one of the images I'd done for a men's shoot and loved it," says Jamie. I took his extensions out and gave him a restyle previously, and he was ready for a complete new look for the new season this time round.

"We went for the short, hard military look - partings are changing to be harder and more regimented and have been big on the catwalks.

This is a great men's style for autumn through winter 2008."

Big Brother Celebrity Hair Hits and Horrors

When it comes to celebrity status, the Big Brother 'stars' certainly demand plenty of column inches; but when it comes to celebrity style they're not quite so adept.

If they're not showing a little more flesh than we need to see, there's too much bling or another fashion faux pas raising eyebrows.

And as for the hair... well there are more hair extensions than in the family enclosure at an England match!

We asked a few leading hairdressers to cast their eye over some of the housemates who have managed to survive the celebrity status test of time; and it's fair to say there weren't to many complimentary comments going round.

Fortunately, they did have plenty of suggestions for how their hair styles could be improved, so if you're listening Chantelle and Co...

Celebrity Hair-o-Meter: Lily's Gone Back to Her Roots - Hurrah!

We're been spoilt for choice when it comes to celebrity bad hair days in the past two weeks and, as ever on HJi, the Hair-o-Meter has honed in on the most hot and most horrendous hairstyles of the fortnight.

	Hot stuff...
	Lily Allen This paparazzi shot of Lily on the blower might not be her best picture, but we're so pleased to see she's ditched the pink phase and returned to her glossy, gorgeous deep brunette shade.
	Lauren Laverne TV presenter Lauren is becoming something of a regular on the glossies' best-dressed pages lately, and we think her hair is looking hot too. This dishevelled blonde style is perfect for rock-chick glam.
	Agyness Deyn It seems Agy can do no wrong when it comes to style - especially when it comes to her signature blonde locks. Despite her questionable 80s-tribute outfit, her colour shone onstage at the T4 On the Beach festival last week.
	Davina McCall There's something about Davina's enormous quiff here that reminds us of a certain Cameron Diaz movie character... Probably not the look the presenter was hoping to evoke at a recent BB eviction.
	Kathreya Kasisopa She seems very sweet, but there's nothing cute about Big Brother 9 contestant Kathreya's hair. If she wins, mark our words: Heat magazine will give this lady a major makeover, starting from the top - literally!
	Madonna We love Madge but she's been languishing at the chilly end of the Hair-o-Meter for a while now and with this frizzy fright-wig it's easy to see why. Sack the stylist, Mrs Ritchie.

Robert Eaton's Celebrity Hair Icon: Blondie

"Blondie was the first person to use her hair to define the name, look and vibe of a band. Look at Pink and how she has done the same too. In my eyes, Blondie was the first female music artist who had everything.

"She was fashion conscious - her hair colour was loud but launched a look that many women of the time then wore.

"Her style was always bleached blonde but she had so many great variations with lengths, cuts and shapes. Her most iconic must be the style that she wore in the video Heart of Glass - a voluminous bob - which was simple, irresistible and made her look feminine and cute.

"I also like the blunt fringe that Deborah wore with long hair at the back, a sort of Cleopatra look. With her platinum hue, the blunt fringe and long hair was so rock and roll. Kate Moss has worn this look several times.

"There are mixed feelings about Deborah and her current look, but with the re-release of her first album I think people will look back at her styles and think 'yes, she got it right.'"

Natalie Imbruglia Celebrity Style

Natalie Imbruglia has been in the spotlight for more than two decades and during that time she has always managed to ooze style and class.

When it comes to her hair, Natalie has played with varying lengths from long layers to short elfin crops that accentuate her beautiful eyes.

Mainly opting for warm brunette shades that flatter he skin tone, Natalie seldom gets it wrong.

And her lastest transition to anon trend bob was created for her by session stylist Tara Smith is no exception.

But Tara says you don't need Natalie's natural beauty to carry off the style. In fact she thinks it is a perfect look for any clients looking for a wearable summer style.

Martine McCutcheon Celebrity Style

Martine McCutcheon has come a long way since the days when she played Tiffany, the tart with a heart behind the bar in Eastenders' Queen Vic. Since then, she's been a star on the stage and even hooked up with the Prime Minister in the blockbuster hit Love Actually.

All the while, the media have had an ongoing too thin/too big debate about her curvy figure but what they seem to have overlooked is that she's matured into something of a celebrity hair style icon.

	Nicole Richie New mum Nicole carries off the 'haven't really tried' look to perfection with this effortless updo and delicately dishevelled strands.
	Cameron Diaz Ok, so Cameron never looks bad, but her usual surfer-girl style is so much cooler than this straight hair and Sloaney pashmina combo.

Celebrity Blondes From Icy to Strawberry

Blonde hair is as intrinsically linked with summer as strawberries and cream; sea and sand; picnics in the parks; and Pimms and lemonade.

But when it comes to chosing the right summer shade, the modern client isn't content with picking a look for the season and sticking with it. She's looking for a shade that reflects changes in her needs and even her mood.

In fact, a recent survey by Schwarzkopf Professional found that 81per cent of blondes go into the salon wanting to update and refresh their look rather than just maintain the same colour and style.

But with blonde hair shades ranging from icy to strawberry, it goes with out saying that not every shade is suitable for every client and that you have to match the right shade to the right skin tone.

We caught up with Schwarzkopf 'Blonde Expert' Charlie Taylor, from Charlie Taylor Hair, Health and Beauty, to look at four of the key blonde shades celebs are wearing this season and learn which clients the look can best be recreated on.

Gwyneth's Head-Turning Hair Makeover

When Gwyneth Paltrow wowed the paparazzi with her sexy new style at the premieres of her latest flick Iron Man, it was her sky-high stilettos that stole the headlines.

What went largely unnoticed was the new softer hair style she unveiled, which added the season's must-have waves and movement to her previously sleek locks.

But while the press may have overlooked the mane makeover, the look gets a big thumbs up from the hairdressers we quizzed about the celebrity's hair.

Hair Highlights and Horrors of Euro 2008

With England's football heroes more caught up in wedding fever than football fever this summer, it might have escaped your attention that Euro 2008 is in full swing.

But if the idea of 22 men chasing a ball around a pitch doesn't float your boat, it's still worth standing up and taking notice because more and more men are turning to the sports arena for their style inspiration.

The great news is that Kevin Keegan-style perms and handlebar moustaches have been consigned to the days when England were still any good; the bad news is that there's still a fair few hair horrors on display.

We asked British Hairdressing Awards 2007/08 Men's Hairdresser of the Year Jim Shaw, salon director of Essensuals, Billericay, to put some of football's icons hair styles under the microscope.

	Hot Pink...
	Lily Allen She grabbed headlines galore with this show-stopping fuchsia makeover and, judging from the response we've had from you lot, you're loving Lily's bold new look.
	Emma Bunton Baby Spice unveiled her blonde bob at the recent Glamour Awards bash and we think it looks fab. This swingy, flicky shape is spot-on for summer, and the gorgeous golden hue is hot with a tan.
	Mark Ronson Music producer to the stars Mark works geek-chic style, with this side-swept, boyish cut. And check out the frilly shirt! This is a man not afraid to make a fashion statement.
	Prince William Not exactly flying the flag for male grooming, Wills' barnet looks decidedly unkempt, and with a fleet of footmen at his disposal, surely he can do better than this mess?
	Marcia Cross Thank goodness this is a wig and the flame-haired Desperate Housewife hasn't swapped her trademark red locks for this dreary, dull cut and colour permanently.
	Beth Ditto All credit to The Gossip frontwoman for taking a risk fashion-wise - and she's hailed by many as quite a style icon. But we think this quirky top-knot is just plain wrong.

Is Lily Allen Pretty in Pink?

It only seems two minutes ago that we were saying 'Oh my God, I can't believe it, Lily Allen has gone blonde' and now the lovely lady has only gone and changed her colour again.

But has she opted for a return to her chocolate roots, a striking copper or a different shade of blonde? Oh no, that's not for the Smile singer. She's opted for bubblegum pink!

When we asked the hairdressing fraternity what they made of Lily's new colour, we were rather expecting raised eyebrows and universal horror, but it turns out you're rather fond of the quirky look.

As the undisputed Queen of Pop, Madonna has been re-inventing herself for as long as most of us can remember.

From blonde to dark and back to blonde again; from long to short and all the lengths in between: you name it Madonna has done it.

Now, as her half century approaches, she's only gone and done it again. This time she has said goodbye to the trashier looks of yesteryear and opted for a more mature, glamorous look that screams 'yummy mummy'.

	Flying the flag for redheads, Rose McGowan's traffic-stopping shade defines her style. Eat your heart out Jessica Rabbit!
	Working an effortlessly pretty updo and this summer's must-have golden blonde locks, Michelle Williams made a welcome return to the red carpet.
	Cate Blanchett's glamorous pinned-up twists kept her strands delicately in place, complementing her stunning Armani gown.
	There's no doubting Sharon Stone looks fabulous at 50, but we think this puffed-up bouffant seriously lets her down.
	A spritz of shine spray would have worked wonders to liven up Madonna's lacklustre look - and time to tend to those roots!
	The less said about Tamara Beckwith's badger-inspired hair horror, the better.

Kylie Minogue's Style Throughout the Years

It's more than two decades since Kylie Minogue, who turns 40 this week, bounded onto our screens. In that time she's gone from girl nextdoor to sex siren to national treasure.

In the style stakes, she is most most-famed for her iconic outfits: from the spangly gold hot pants that relaunched her career to the white hooded costume that got us la-la-la-la-la-ing and more recently her blue 'Showgirls' show-stopper; but her hairstyles have also been through numerous reinventions
